Anyways here is a pic of my earthen pot with my 511 mix. You can see that lower part is darker. Maybe I goofed up a bit and my mix is retaining some water. Pot is on ground btw. Maybe I need to put some bricks under it.

During winter the mix is going to retain moisture. It will probably only need watering a couple of times in the winter. As temperature goes up you will need that moisture to keep from watering more than once a day. I have only watered my plants once this winter, and with the rain we are now getting I may not water again until spring. The farther north you go the more you want well drained mixture, In SE Texas water retention is needed due to the brutal summer. With the mix you used you will should not have the problem of too much water as long as you do not supplement water in the winter.
