I'm far from being an expert, however, the fabric looks too much like the rug, not a match but looks like you're trying to match. Also, no valences or cornice boxes would be my vote.

Thank you, Bailey. Not trying to "match" but definitely want them to play well together. While not in the same room, in certain positions you will be able to see both the rug and the fabric at the same time. I'm happy with the fabric choice, but do need to figure out how it wants to be used. :)

I also think I should clarify... One valance would be created to cover all 3 of the rear windows in the eat in. Not sure it makes anyone like the idea any better, but maybe that wasn't clear in the op.

I like the ceilings too. They're only 9 foot but they feel almost grand in some spots.

So you like the squared off cornice, not the shaped soft valance idea? I like that... maybe with an inside mount roman in the same fabric over the sink to the right?... but no cornice there.

What do you see at the double windows and door? I'd like to add some neutral top pinch pleat drapes in a weighty linen-like fabric... maybe with a velvet trim on the leading edge... But I'm also having a hard time there too. I want to be able to open and close but there is no room for the stack on the right side next to the door... and then... what to do about that door??!

You really can't do anything with that door... However, whatever height you set for your kitchen window cornices at, match it in the adjoining room so it's consistent. I also think you should keep the height consistent over the sink. Use a rod and do panels there to change it up a little. I'm not an expert but I've had my fair share of window dressing challenges and decorator input. This is our 5th house in 15 years. Crazy, I know!

As far as your windows, I see your dilemma. I know the dining light is new but I would consider changing it. You may not even need window treatments depending on the light. In this case, I would install a cornice above the sink window.

Thank you, We're very happy to finally be out of "transition". We moved 3 times and had 2 hotel stays during all this, so finally being in a space of our own is really nice. (((Exhale)))

The lights are ALL leaving. lol The builder didn't really offer anything with any character, and hubster is an electrician so, we just opted for the cheapest "package" lights they had. We did add under cabinet lighting, created zones with separate switches, and prewired for sconces in a few areas on the first floor where making the changes later would be more difficult... but otherwise, he can change them all out and add dimmers and whatnot.

I do like that drum light you posted, it mimics the x/diamond pattern we have in a few other places. Hubby doesn't usually care for drums, one of the few things he has voiced an opinion on, but I think he would like that one. It's open and that keeps it from looking like a" tire swing". His words. lol

Did you notice that they DID let me have the bumpout for the dining table?! I was so excited when that happened. I didn't say anything then, but immediately started looking for the right round table to put in there. lol Thank you for that! And the linen perimeter with graphite island for the cabinets is very lovely in person. Again, Thanks to you for helping that along as well.

I went shopping for accessory fabrics today and think I have a good grasp on the direction I'd like to go now. That has been the problem up until now... I didn't have a solid idea what I liked (because I like so very many things) and I really needed to see the furniture that we ordered IN the space.

My camera seems to have some hazing or fog in the lens, so I'll grab my daughters phone and posts some pics later this evening. It's all so very yummy. I bought too much, but living in High Point means I am surrounded by it... it's hard not to partake. lol
