Bodacia
After my Kita passed away, I found that I didn't want to live without a dog.
Sp, please welcome Braska Bodacious - that was her racing name, but we just call her Bodacia. She is a retired, racing greyhound. Such an amazing dog. Because she only knew life in a kennel - for just the year & a half before they retired her - she wasn't house trained, never walked up/down stairs, never walked on carpet, hardwood, etc, never rode in a car. So many, many "nevers". Was even reluctant to take a treat the first few times.
After a few short months (I got her in June), she's definitely settled now. Not one accident in the house, handles the stairs like a master & hears the cheese wrapping paper from the other end of the house. Still not thrilled with the car, but getting better. Doesn't get into trash, doesn't chew up anything - even toys (which she had never had before), but she will re-arrange shoes - taking them from one room to another & just leaving them there. However, she often has the "puppy dog eyes", looking so guilty, even though she didn't do anything.
She also had never seen snow, coming from Florida. Living in Maine now, she's experienced not only snow, but ice, sleet & everything else Maine has to offer. She still insists on going out into the fenced in yard thru the snow drifts. She tries to step in the same footprints she left the last time, but every once in a while, she takes off like she's at the races.....so funny to watch.
Refuses to wear a jacket, booties or hoodie thing they call a snood. If I get them on her, they will be found in the middle of the yard.......in a foot of snow. But surprisingly, the cold doesn't seem to bother her. I sometimes have to make her come in because it's so cold.
Since Bodacia is a registered racer, I can look up her stats on line. She only ever had two races. The first race actually has a replay. She came out of the gate dead last & meandered across the finish line. Second race, she came in 7 out of 8 - only due to #8 wandering away. That was when her future became "retired".
She's such a good dog - really only wants to be scratched & loved.
I'm so lucky to have found her !

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoCongrats on your Greyhound. I've had my Willow for two years - she had 147 Races at the track in Tampa, FL. She has never had an "accident" in the house, never chewed on furniture, loves kids, small critters, stairs took a day, loves the car.
My wife is holding the lead while behind the tree... we NEVER let her run free except in our fenced yard.
See the Orange Marker Flag. I use those and orange painted Golf Balls to mark "poo" when it is inconvenient to clean it up until the next day... use these markers every night when I take her out for the last time. Clean up in the AM.
I have Googled my Willow's track name and watched many of her 147 races, including her final race where she strained her right rear leg. Fully recovered. Her original owner is a big supporter of adoption/rescue groups - not all owners are, for sure!
I do not see your dog's name come up. Did she actually race? Not all do.
Good on you for taking her in. They are sweet dogs and seem to understand that as well as they were taken care of while winning, what you are doing is "special!"
