At the end of the day - if this is the only bathroom with a shower/tub area - then you should keep the tub. Do a tub shower combination.

If you absolutely have to remove the tub for a somewhat larger shower, then you will run the risk of not having at least one bathtub in the house for resale value.

it's real estate 101 - not mandatory, just common sense. Most folks want to be able to either have a bath, or bath their baby. If your duplex doesn't have one but the neighbours do, they're going to put an offer on that duplex and not yours!

Marie is correct. It is really about resale. One tub in the home is usually preferred for children.
