Location of Kitchen Pendant Light??

My kitchen redesign is nearing the end. Cabinetry and granite go in next week. I have eliminated a peninsula and will have a 6 x 4 island which is offset towards the living room. Attached is a picture of my new overhead light. Do I hang it at the location of the existing fluorescent fixture which is centered in room or do I swag it to hang centered over the island? It will throw a ton of light so my issue is not illumination of island but rather what will look better?

Lastly, I have tongue in groove ceiling and directly centered over island will have the wire running diagonally across the boards. Would it be better to have wire running parallel to board and as close to centered as possible if I relocate over island? Point being it may look odd crossing over the tongue/groove .

In the best of worlds an electrician would have moved the box so that your light fixture hung center to the island if that is where you need the most light. Not knowing all the details I think that if you can hang the fixture centre to the room without it looking like you really wanted it over the island but missed then put it in the centre of the room. If you want to have it over the island and your only choice is to run wiring on the outside of the tonge and groove then it should run with the groove where possible not across it.

Thank you, Mary. I guess my question is what looks best when you walk in the door. in my mind it "may" look odd if not over the island. I am going to ask my CKD guy later today but just trying to get some input from others.
