Persil Universal Powder

I had a dose left that I was saving, Alex sent me this awhile back. I had forgotton how truely amazing this stuff is for whites. Today I had a ton of white flour sack towels, our non-paper towels. 55 of them. Covered in all types of food from red sauce and gravy and everything in between. I did a quick prewash on cool first using a T of Sears detergent. Than i washed them on a long cycle reaching 154+ with Persil Universal...WOW they are blindingly white and not a stain remains on any of them. Great detergent..to bad a 100 load box is 90 dollars haha

So this is the German product, correct? I had some a few years ago when I first got my machine. I liked it too, but I'm happy with the US version. Do you think the Universal is superior?

Persil universal powder is probably THE best whites detergent I've ever used, hands down. It also smells just amazing. I don't buy it anymore though, it's just too expensive. I'm also finally converting to safer detergents as far as carcinogens, etc. But yes I do love it. That and the now defunct Oxydol.

OT, but do you have a favorite flour sack towel? I'd like to get some to try out on windows, but buying them sight-unseen on Amazon, with reviews from great to terrible, is daunting.

I didn't know this until recently, but Walmart has great flour sack towels for cheap! I thought they were really hard to find as I had always gotten them gifted to me from my mom but I saw them in Walmart!?!? They're just as good as any IMO.

Persil makes good detergents. Just a matter of preference. I actually prefer the perls to the powder. But the cleaning/whitening power is terrific for me.

Enduring this Persil Universal isn't beads or pearls its a powder..yes from Germany. If you like the scent of Persil Pearls you will like the scent of the powder its teriffic. YES I do think it whitens better than the US Pearls. Yes IMO it is superior to US Persil Pearls. Its not sold in the US but it can be found on Amazon and maybe a Miele dealer.

Mami where did you buy yours?

Walt, I have ordered flour sack towels from 3 different vendors on Amazon but have found the ones in Walmart around 9 dollars for 12 are better. As long as you wash them seperate from anything else expecially terry cloth they will remain lint free. Also never use FS on them. They are chlorine bleach friendly although I only use chlorine on them if they came into contact with raw meat. (Son did this)

I have saved a ton when I started using these in place of paper towels or paper napkins. One roll of paper towels last me a good month now instead of a few days. I have a LOT of them, probably several hundred so I wait usually until I have a full load in my Duet which easily holds way more than the 55 I just washed. Its the folding of a hundred of these at a time that's the killer LOL. I dont iron them since they are just for family use. Walmart keeps theirs with the kitchen towels usually in bundled packages on bottom shelf.

Hmm. I see it online, 100 loads 58 bucks.. Still double per load vs Tide powder with bleach. I can get by with 2T doses, so it comes out a wash ..ba dum ching.. Nice to have a bit around for some tough loads.

The Persil Color is easier to justify for me, as there isn't anything comparable available locally. Cheer powder is as close as you can get, but isn't as powerful.

Mamapinky-Amazon used to sell smaller boxes of Persil Universal powder, that's where I used to buy it. It was either a 5 or 10 load box, can't quite remember. They haven't sold this size in a long time though, I've only seen the big boxes you're talking about.

Wow! I'm impressed you still had some of this, MamaP. Cool. Actually, I still have a bit of the stuff you sent me in return, too (Tide Pro). I'm glad you like the Unviersal Powder. In the end, I (like Roc) wound up preferring the US Perls to the German powder. Less messy, universally available and similar performance. But for a number of years that powder was my go-to for whites. Now it's US Perls or GG pods.

Alex the only reason I still had any left is I refused to use it as than it would be gone which of course is exactly what has happened LOL.

I use Persil Pearls most of the time, which of course I adore, but the Universal powder at least for me has better whitening. Probably not enough to justify the high cost though.

I used to be a die hard Tide with Bleach powder fan, but now I can't stomach the scent, *sigh*....I am on the hunt for the Tide Pro and keep watching Ollies in hopes they still have some that they haven't yet put out, Tide Pro is very good at whitening since it has much more Sodium percarbonate in it. Its also nice that its been formulated to be less alkaline than the regular Tide with Bleach powder so its easier on my sheets that get washed so frequently.

Speer, are you sure that's not the mega perls for that price?

Mama, I double checked, it's the non megaperls powder

Speer thanks..I sure can't fibd it forvthat but I'm not buying anyway..I did put it on my wish list Hahaha

It wasn't on amazon, but they do have an amazon storefront. Sometimes they have better deals on their home site. They sell all kinds of german detergents and cleaners. One could say they sell 'better products online' <cough> .com

Just a thought here. With your washers that have such high temps, why not add plain Hydrogen Peroxide with what ever detergent you like? You've got the longer wash times and higher temps which is what you need w/out an activator. Plus it's way cheaper than ordering an expensive product.
