I posted this in the Fruit and Orchard section before realizing that there is a forum specific to figs. I'm posting it again here in hopes of attracting more responses from experienced fig growers and experts.

I have a Desert King fig tree that I bought bare root and planted last winter. I didn't get around to fencing it off and all the foliage was eaten off by deer in the spring. Some more leaves grew from the trunk during the summer and were again cleaned off by deer, twice. By the end of the season it had been completely wiped out 3 times but in the fall a little shoot with a few leaves sprouted from the very top bud on the trunk and it managed to survive. Now I'm wondering if I should toss it out and start over with a new bare root or if it will bounce back this spring. I'm confident that the little shoot at the top will grow but I want branches lower on the trunk where the shoots were eaten away and don't know if there are dormant buds down there that will try and grow again. Does anybody out there know if I can expect new branches to grow from the sites that were repeatedly eaten by deer in the tree's first season?

Also, how tall do Desert King fig trees get if allowed to reach their full potential?
