Absolutely. Because you have large format stone tiles, consider wider than typical 2 1/4" boards of hardwood. I don't recommend engineered or pre-finished flooring because they are typically short lengths and limiting in layout approaches and finishes you may want to consider. For instance, you may want to continue with the formal feel of your first floor using border and grid inlays of contrasting wood tones/species as well as patterns such as basket weave, herringbone, running bond, stacking etc.

It will be beautiful. A medium tone stain takes less time for vacuuming IMO. I would not want a super dark stain.

Yes the combination will work. I will advise you to pull back part of your carpet that butts up to the tile and measure the thickness of the travertine. If the product is 1/2" thick then a 1/2" wood will butt nicely to the product without a transition. If the tile is less than 1/2" then look at a 3/8" or 5/8" wood. -- You don't have to match the thickness if you don't want to but doing so will avoid a toe catching transition that could be a tripping hazard.

Travertine is a natural stone that is STUNNING - one of my favourites. And a handsome wood floor next to a stunning natural stone floor = extremely luxurious. With the colour of your stone, I would say you are allowed any wood you want. There would be very few species of wood that would NOT look good next to that stone. The only one I can think of would be Brazilian Cherry (Jatoba) and only because it has a STRONG pink/purple/red/brown presentation.

We are about to redo the entire home. I recently visited someone who had 24 inch travertine. I love the idea of travertine in kitchen and foyer, bathrooms. Will be using hardwoods in the main living area, den and hallways. It is exciting to change things up a bit...fun!

Best combination ever! You have beautiful travertine, choose a nice natural colour of wood, something that goes well with the furniture, and lay it in a simple pattern. Complicated ones make the space feel smaller and busy. And enjoy your beautiful home!

Thank you! Looks beautiful. I’m having the same dilemma and replacing carpet with engineered hardwood. The hardwood would butt up to my travertine and I’m having a tough time deciding dark or light wood. Your light wood looks beautiful. May I ask what color and brand?

I’ll have to look it up. I’ll get back to you on this. The steps and the entire upstairs is done in lvp with a very close match to the other rooms

I want to do the same thing! i have dark and rough travertine my husband lives i want to replace the gold carpet but unsure what color would look right to brighten the room dark cabinets as well

I know the color may have changed but do you know which engineered hardwood line/color you used? Your travertine is similar to ours so we have the same issue.
