Need help with empty space!

We have a wide open space between the kitchen & dining area. Currently it is a "drop off /play area"'for my 10 yr. old & this is where her and her friends play.
It's a nice space, we just have no idea what to do with it. The other side of the same room drops down into our living room. Please keep in mind we are long term renters when coming up with ideas. Thank you for your input! ( we are getting rid of those 2 desks in the picture-they are being donated) Not sure if we should make this into another sitting room (with couch & chairs) or if you have some other creative ideas! As you can see we are not very good decorators, LOL.

9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoI would want storage for the toys. This is Ikea Kallax, it can be attached to the wall for safety or it can be placed horizontally on the floor or on casters. They sell the baskets or doors to fit. Multipurpose in a bedroom too. White, dark or birch finish. You could have one perpendicular to the wall to create a division from your dining room. Try turning the rug to emphasis the width of the space rather than the length.

10 year olds will soon want a hangout spot to sit. Don't invest in anything juvenile. A simple small round table for crafts or snacks? You might find something on Craigslist or a consignment shop. Do you have younger children too, I see the small table set by your counter.
