kitchen countertops and backsplash help

Moving, downsizing. Countertops are damaged and need to be replaced. Paint on walls is not like the photo show, it's tanner. Anyway I need to replace the countertops and pick a backsplash. I like the clean open, serene feel of white, with the gray tones. Any ideas?

Have you gone out looking yet - there are so many pretty choices out there. If possible, see your choice on a large piece. If you are looking at a granite, you should be able to pic out your slab. I have a quartz with gray but which also leans "warm" which I like because I have more creamy walls - I prefer warm tones to the cool grays that also work with white. If you want to keep the warmer toned wall color then look for something with gray as well as creams and even a hint of beige.

Get a sample of whatever you pick and mistreat it kitchen style to see if it holds up. While gray backsplash is very common right now, I prefer something with more color. Look on image sites like google images, Houzz and Pinterest at different white kitchens and see what strikes your fancy.

Do not get both a busy backsplash and a busy countertop - pick one to be the star and the other to be subtly pretty.

Are you replacing to sell? If so what is the standard in the area - granite, quartz or laminate? If laminate, I would replace what you have with new and that is all. Price accordingly and new owners can decide what they want.

Wow, thank you, I am definitely interested in white with hints of gray for countertops, but s thinking I had to stick with gray/white for backsplash. I would love to add a beachy theme /feel, so maybe some glass blue?

The backsplash is the least expensive surface in the kitchen to change out, so if you are going to be in the home for a while, go with what you love. I think blue glass is really pretty.

Just a thought - I am short and do not like the microwave over the range. A pretty stainless hood would look pretty with a blue backsplash.

Wow! Thanks for the ideas, I love blue and the rest of the house is so neutral. I plan on staying here until we die. We just downsized from a 6/4 with almost 4k Sq ft to 3/2 and only 1700 Sq ft, so it's definitely an adjustment. But we wanted to live debt free and we are empty nesters now.

Definitely not laminate, I'm thinking granite or second marble. Had Corian last house. I'm hoping to get a neutral color so if I get bored, like you said, I can always change backsplash and make a big difference. Huge adjustment going from a huge house with huge pool and tons of stuff to bowl slate, but I think we can make it work. I love the area full of arts, Broadway quality shows, arts, and best of all 10 minutes to the beach and Intracoastal.

Your flooring needs to make sense with what your choosing for countertops. Can't tell from the pics but I'm guessing their beige? Are they staying? Don't know if cool greys will go that well with your floor as it is right now.
