Detergents Without Enzimes

I know this is an old topic but I would like to know which brands of detergent are enzyme free. I am having some skin problems and wonder if that might be the cause. Also in a thread about last Saturday Miami Mami said she was switching to detergents that are carcinogen free. I guess that means no optical brighteners. If some of you would kindly list those detergents in one place I (and probably others) could print it out and keep it for reference.

What detergents have you tried already? (I won't have your answer, but I'm sure knowing what you have tried will help others).

Nerdy are you sure its not the synthetic perfumes in the detergent causing the skin problems? I ask because that's a big culprit

mama, I don't have a clue I am just guessing because some of the poster say they avoid enzimes.

Cedric, I am using Gain Original liquid and I have a jug of Tide liquid (I think original too). I have used some others a while ago and I was not having a problem. I think one was a Costco free and clear and another All (not sure which type).

Yep..I would first try an unscented and see if that helps. Here are a few of my favorates that I use on my asthmatic grandsons things and have great cleaning results.Tide Free and Gentle Pods..ALL Free and Clear Pods or liquid the one that says With Oxi. Tide Free and Gentle Powder and Persil Sensitive (its completely unscented also) .

Its just my opinion to try the unscented first and see what happens....or you could go unscented and enzyme free..the ALL Free and Clear liquid, NOT the one that says with oxi has no enzymes. Small and Mighty free and clear also has no enzymes.

Hi Nerdy! I'm in agreement with previous posters that it is most likely the added fragrance that is causing your skin issues. It is the number one irritant, fragrance, even with more natural, safer detergents, the added fragrance even from essential oils can cause some people irritation. In regards to my comment about carcinogens (aka cancer causing agents) , yes, I am converting to safer detergents that have less of these chemicals that have such close contact with skin. From my research and help from a wonderful member of this forum the safer detergents with low carcinogenic concern , but still give amazing cleaning results are the grab green pods fragrance free. The ones with fragrance are still acceptably safe as well.( they do have enzymes though, if you're trying to avoid those, but enzymes overall are considered safe and non irritating to most people)There are others too that rank safe as well, like Biokleen and 7th generation powder, but may not perform as well. It's been hard to give up my P+G products, i was raised on them, but I can't ignore what's in them. And i personally don't want those chemicals on my or my kids skin, day in day out. I am the same with soaps, shampoos, lotions, toothpastes, etc. If you're interested I can post or send you the links of my sources and guides.

    - Charlies Soap

    - All Small & Mighty Free/Clear (some versions have enzymes; read the ingredients)

Country Save is another detergent that has no enzymes. It seems very popular but in our area needs to be purchased online. If my stash ever gets used up (ha!) I will try it.

My wife finds Biokleen Free & Clear Laundry Powder perfectly satisfactory for her laundry, which isn't very dirty. She doesn't even add STPP to it. All washes are long, though, with Extended option on Miele.

But are Country Save and BioKleen OB free? I thought BioKleen had enzymes

BioKleen ingredients from the website: Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Sulfate, Laureth 7 (plant based surfactant), Sodium Silicate, Zeolite, Cellulose Gum (plant based chelator), Hydrogen Peroxide, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Glycerin, Sodium Chloride

Mamap - there are two versions of BioKleen and one has enzymes, other does not. That's how it was when I bought some five years ago.

According to the Country Save web site, neither their powder nor liquid has OBs.
