Need a quick opinion

I only have this rug on loan until this afternoon to look at colors. Just moved into this house - had it painted alabaster, it has 2-sotry ceilings and amazing moldings. I want to re-use 2 of my palomino chairs and will purchase a neutral sofa. What do you think of this rug? Does it go with the chair or not?

    Personally I like it.

Look like you already know or you wouldn't ask. It really doesn't go. Colors are right but everything else is wrongThe two patterns fight with each other. Try to find a textured rug with the right colors or a striped one . Many more options. Just keep looking

I don't hate it, but the two large patterns are competing a bit.

The patterns are fighting for me, too.

You can find something better. Keep looking. Tone on tone. Good luck.

The carpet looks busy with the chairs; I like susyq's suggestion

The chair, the rug and the fireplace - colours look good together, just too much pattern for my taste.

I like print mixing so it gets my vote.

Is there a sofa in the space? If so....what is the color? I think your rug works here are a few pillow ideas...very small patterns and lots of texture...

Might be a little too grey for the space depending on the sofa color. I think a rug with more beige would be better. Not crazy about the traditional side table. Yes you can mix style, but it doesn't complement the modern chair.

    Well done, Mark!

Thank you so much everyone! I value your opinions.

Trying to say it nicely, but I think your chair's upholstery is the problem, not the rug. Except for the antlers, the fabric doesn't go with the other furniture/features you show.

I agree with above comment. Something about the chair is off for me. It's slightly too light, modern, "fun". The rest work great together. It's not the worst mix ever but not ideal.

Love the chair but it's going ten rounds with the rug. Tone on tone would be better or an altogether different (smaller) scale. Good luck with your new home. It sounds wonderful.

Wow so surprised in the reactions..your home is beautiful..the chair is so fun..gives a eclectic feel...I am sure we are not getting the exact colors you see in the room....but I love the combination of patterns...to me it gives it a Scandinavian mountain home feel....maybe add a image from standing a little further away to get a true feel of the space.

    Too much of the same.

Since you already own the two chairs and you need a rug, doesn't it make sense to find a rug that works with the chairs? That shouldn't be so hard.

Do you have a sofa that would play into this equation? OK, see that you will purchase a neutral sofa.

Return the rug and keep looking.

Sisal would be a really nice fit with your chairs.

I'm not loving the pineapple table with the chairs. Too much and too old fashioned to go with the cool chairs.

I love the two together! Do not get rid of the rug....it is fabulous!

Sandiereimer..I totally agree..I think it is fabulous..obviously if you purchase that chair you are more of a risk taker..so why stop now and do a safe option...that rug has personality.

I agree H.I.W.E.!!!! It is fun, go with it!!!! I think sisal will ruin that beautiful room!

The pattern does compete, to me. It also could use a thread of the color, which ties the mantle and chair. It doesn't have to be a lot of that color, but a little would tie the three together.

    Hello sadowling,

We think the two large patterns are competing a bit. You should find a nice carpet in similar color tones to go with the chair !

    Best of luck,

I love the chair, by the way. The chair is fun. The antlers are fun. The pineapple is another fun visual detail, whether the two styles go or not, it is still a fun visual pause.

The rug is great but not with the chairs. They fight. The styles of ikat and pony aren't working. The beige of the chairs is a warm color--rug is cool colors. I love mixing patterns but these aren't the ones.

This isn't the only rug out there. You have tons of choices.

ohmygod I didn't realize that your table is a pineapple. Where do you even find something like that?

    Looks perfect
Not a super fan of the rug and everything is so beige. I do love the pineapple table and the chair though. The pattern on the rug is too similarly sized with the chair. Maybe a different pattern that is either much smaller or much bigger. And not greige/beige/grey/brown...

Sorry to throw a wrench into the works, but I would go with something like the first one Leelee posted, kind of a native American vibe - but in red, not tan or beige or grey.

I do see that you returned it but I wanted to add that I liked it. I think it could have worked if the chair was placed on an angle, fully on the rug instead.

Also that I love Mark's idea.

I don't know if posting gets you any closer to deciding what you want. Basic gut feeling is if you are not sure about the purchase..then you probably shouldn't use it. Taking it back was the right decision. I think the next rug should be a little darker maybe with more yellow undertones...a butterscotch, sand or tan. Love the feel. Great space.
