Thanks for all of your great advice regarding my Prunus Mume 'Matsubara Red' last winter. The tree did eventually leaf out and did quite well once I staked it properly to account for the wind on my roof.
The tree is beginning to bloom now, much earlier than it did last year (probably because it was purchased bare-root), and I think I am seeing the bloom deformity you mentioned being unique to 'Matsubara Red' grown in the PNW.

Is this consistent with what you have seen or is it more likely frost damage, in your opinion?
