Yes weeding and cleaning up leaves etc. Something always needs attention, but don't consider it work. Enjoyed the sun and just being outdoors.

Yes, I have some massive weeds that need to be removed - from pots, no less! I also have a lot of leaves on my stone path beside my apple tree (which still has not yet lost all of its leaves), but I will wait for the leaves to dry out before I try to remove them.

Lots of weed pulling! I'm building a new compost pile with the weeds and the neighbors leaves. :)

I have commitments for tomorrow, but I really need to get out there--regular maintenance has been lacking for about a month now, and it shows. The rain didn't help in that regard, but it was welcome just the same.

So much! Loved being outside. Pruned the roses way harder than I usually do. Defoliated. Cleaned up the citrus and avocado trees. Applying horticultural oil for the first time today! (Thanks Kitty for all the info on that in other posts!) Trimmed back other perennials. Weeded. Got my chilled tulips in the ground. Gorgeous weekend here!

As goblue said, it's not really work. For me, it's zen-like. Leave other thoughts behind, focus on the simple tasks at hand. Good exercise, fresh air, nice finished product. I made myself a promise to buy a trash can with wheels!.

I'm sure you'll be fine spraying, Cori. I wouldn't mind if you reported on how it went, the size sprayer you got, what brand of oil, etc.

Socks- There is a clumping form of liriope. You must have the spicata that spreads by runners. Dig it all up and replant the clumping kind and that will be one "weeding" job to take off your list. I bought a bunch of liriope "Big Blue" this year that WASN'T. It spread by runners and will heretofore be consigned to a pot.

Otherwise, I LOVE they way weeds pull up roots and all so easily after our soaking rains.

Sure socks! I used Bonide all seasons spray oil. The directions said 2-5 TBSP per gallon for summer and 5-7.5 TBSP per gallon for "dormant" oil. Our January in my area of CA is so mild... I used just 4 TBSP per gallon-ish.

I just got a hand held flo-master sprayer. Didn't want to shell out big bucks my first time doing it. It held 56 oz (half a gallon).

Since my roses are mostly new and I pruned & defoliated them first, I could get through about 15 roses before needing to refill.

It was really easy. Wasn't messy at all. It was a consistency like neutrogenia bath oil, but a little thinner.

Defoliating helped A LOT!!! I think that probabaly got most of the bugs without even needing to oil.

The avocado and citrus trees I didn't defoliate and they were messier and harder since you kind of need to spray it upwards in order to get under the leaves. I read later that it may not have been the right time to do avocado and citrus in my area of CA. Oops.

Excellent report. Thank you. I got the same oil. Didn't get a sprayer yet. Someone is going to give me one that has been used for water only. Not sure if it's 1 or 2 gallons. Also not sure if I should spray today (Monday) when it's going to rain Thursday.

Cut the dead leafs off the Ensente banana. Its now a spear. Otherwise,not much. They say Wednesday is another river of atmosphere.

Its still too cool in the bay area to re pot, or do the preparing for spring like weather.

I did slack off for a couple of days when the weather was nice, but yesterday I was out in the yard trimming, raking up leaves and pulling some weeds. I filled two green bins and a smaller trash can! There's still a lot to do, but I got tired so watched a movie to relax :-) One of my biggest problem in doing yardwork is disposing of all that stuff since I only have two bins. Sometimes I leave a pile until next trash pickup, but hate doing that so it keeps me from doing more when I have the energy.

Is that why it's so slow on the CA forums, we're all outside?

Love the snowy mountains and more to come. My bulbs are all planted now. A few roses to be moved today and tomorrow before the rain. All this digging is good for the glutes.

Filled up our two bins mostly with Tecoma winter trimmings yesterday. Went to see Rouge One today. Will probably be back out in the garden tomorrow. Weedy grasses need yanking before they get to much of a head start.

socks, not sure if it was you that posted (emailed) the question whether I had a problem with having piles of yard trimmings in the yard. I deleted that email because I thought the question would be here, but it's not. If you or someone else asked that question, I do not have a problem with having a piles of clippings, the problem is that strays think it's a good place to do their business, and I hate that! I suppose I could put a tarp over the pile, but if it's in the front yard, I would hate seeing the bright blue tarp there, lol!

Eloise, you may want to call your waste company and ask if you can get another compost bin. Here it's only the garbage bin that we get only one of, the compost and recycle bins are free and we can have more than one if we want. It's worth a call.

I was not out in the yard, had family obligations, but I wish I had been. I may go out today as it looks like the rain may be letting up. Yay Rain, love it!

Relieved to say that more than half the roses were pruned last week so that's a good start. Also, most of the perennials have been cut back. I do just enough pruning every week to stuff our large recycle bin. Have managed to fill it the last six weeks and there are still apple trees and some shrubs to prune. But I doubt I'll be able to fill it this week with all the rain that's forecast for this weekend and the rain will leave the wet soil even more saturated that pruning chores will have to be postponed until it dries some.
