My wife and I purchased a 50's split level about a year ago. The house needs to be completely updated and we are having a tuff time deciding how to do it. We both like an eclectic style but I don't think it really blends well with the modern architectural style. Are there any examples out there of people turning a split level home into something that looks a bit more "cottagey"?

Splits are really terrific houses and have a wealth of possibilities. Tauton Press has published a number of good books on how to update splits, ranches, etc. Photos are of a split in Illinois we redid 12 years ago.
