Needle turn applique help please

Hi All, I am doing a needle turn Christmas quilt. I've done needle turn for years but I'm struggling with how to cut out a center small hole. I need to cut the hole in an e. (I am appliqueing the word peace). Its a small hole about 1/2 inch or slightly more . So the center hole in an e needs to be cut turned and stitched needle turn. I tried it once, and wasn't happy with i. This is a block of the month so I have very little fabric to make repeat mistakes. Can anyone give me advice or know of a tutorial I could watch?

I wish I could help, but I don't applique. When Toolgranny gets back I'm sure she can help you.

I think I would make a small slit and snip around the edges of it, rather than trying to cut an actual hole. Or, could you applique a small oval in the background color on top of the E, rather than cutting a hole?

Hi Donna, you may have a good idea. I did cut a tiny circle and then cut snips around it, but maybe just cutting a slit alone will give me more to turn. I do not have extra fabric of the background until I trim my blocks and I don't want to trim my blocks until I'm ready to put it together.

Have you ever used glue stick? I'm wondering if I'd be better to have it all turned before placing on the backing? Anything I have to beware of doing that?
