Help me finish decorating my family room!

I have been through several curtains and I think those pictured are the final two choices. I originally wanted a more bold navy and white (like the swirl ones pictured) but they ended up being too much for me, as I want something more soft and subdued. (I honestly think I would have been best off to do woven wood shades, but that ship has sailed!). I'm going for rustic, modern, transitional. Thinking of a brown leather chair in the corner to warm up the space but don't want it too dark either. Also would love ideas for the two windows by the fireplace. Faux roman shade valances? The room is open to the kitchen so I am including a picture of the kitchen too. Not sure what to do on the window over the sink (should have done a roman shade, but again we now have rollers). I'm looking forward to your comments! Thank you!

I like bolder curtains; they balancd the rock on the fireplace and Romanshades or simple stationary roman shades in same fabric would look lovely.

I'd use the same panels on the fireplace wall; my pick would be the end panels in your photo.

Thank you! I think I like the swirly ones best too. I can't believe how hard it is to find curtains! What are your thoughts on a leather chair for the corner?

I like the curtains you used on the end and for a more seamless look a curtain rod that extends across your entire window would look nice. Your home is lovely!

I'd place the existing single chairs either side of the fireplace and bring the sofa closer to the fireplace. Perhaps a sofa table with lamps behind the sofa or a table/storage unit under the frames. It's a lovely room just try to introduce more pattern and texture with patterned lamp shades, a metal tray on the coffee table, throws etc. Would love to see photos of your progress.

I agree that the end curtains look best, and they should also be used on the fireplace wall. The rods should go across the entire window, and you can use the drapes just on the outside ends of the fireplace. The other wall with the four windows needs a long rod spanning the entire space. If you can't afford to do that, remove the drapes from those windows and just use drapes on the fireplace wall.

To break up the repetition, you could do matching faux roman shades at the windows flanking the FP. Agree you need one long rod across the other window, and I'd move the sofa forward quite a bit.

Try roman shades on the two windows by the fireplace, like you see here in our design projects below.

Thanks everyone for your input. I actually had a designer help me with some of the choices and she said to use the short curtain rods so you don't see a rod going across the wall above the windows. So why does everyone say to actually switch to a longer curtain rod? Which is best?

i don't you are odd out grover, i always love simple white with sheers, but had impression she did not want?

I like the swirl curtains also, like these too. Roman blinds next to fireplace. Lovely room you have there

I am in complete agreement with groveraxle. I think the more plain curtains are beautiful. I think you could use pattern fabrics for accent pillows or throws on your solid colored sofa. The more plain curtains in my opinion will stand the test of time. :)

Your room is very pretty and calming. I agree with Mark and groveraxle that the lighter curtains are a better bet. They help maintain the calmness of the space.

After seeing grover's photoshopped image, I think the lighter curtains would definitely be your best bet. What do you think of a cream or natural colored leather chair for the corner?

Agree with suggestion of lighter curtains and darker leather chair.

Thanks, everyone, for your opinions. I actually returned all the curtains except the squiggly ones before I saw the last comments. I think they will be ok though. They are pretty muted in person. I was actually thinking of either just using two on either side of the big windows. But I'm not sure if it looks odd since there are three separate windows there, not one big bank of windows. Also, if I do go with four, should I switch to a longer curtain rod? Or three separate ones that cover the entire area above the windows? Where do I find one long one? Thanks again for your help.

Don't mind the white marks. I still need to touch up paint.

I prefer the look of one long rod but that looks to be an awfully big window. How long is it?

The three windows are about 160" wide. My husband says he prefers just two curtain panels vs four. What does everyone think?

I think you need four panels regardless of how you hang them. Either one at each side of all the windows, or two panels on the far ends. You need the double fullness on such a long window. Either way, use one long rod, which will need supports on either side of the largest window pane.
