What would a transformation like this one cost?

We are strongly considering buying a modest house in a great location in the Tampa area, but would want to use the existing house as the basis for our new home. Any help on the transformational costs would be appreciated.

What type of changes would you like to make, please?

We are looking at a 1308 sq ft. cinder block, ranch-style home built in 1952. No updates in recent years. We don't want a big house. We would want at least another 600 sq ft., but no more than 2,300 that would go to expanding kitchen and adding a master bedroom, updating bathrooms, and the kitchen.

Hi Clarke, The design and planning for this project was about $5,300. This was a major upgrade. The roof was raised from 8' to 10', plus the front of the house was brought out to the posts and the two end rooms extended further. The home owner was the contractor, which I'm sure saved him a lot on the construction costs. But he had the time and some know-how. I don't know what he spent on the actual project.

Hi, Clarke, It's been quite a long while since the last post and I was checking in to see if you made it to the Tampa area yet. If so, welcome to the area and hope you've settled in well. If you're still looking at building or remodeling your home, give us a call--we'd be happy to answer any questions you have.

    Meanwhile, all the very best.
