This is genuine marble, Calacatta Gold to be precise. We were able to locate a large enough slab to span floor to ceiling.

In general, quartz is not a viable fireplace material because of the heat generated and the resins used to make quartz. In fact, most all quartz manufacturers will not warranty quartz on a fireplace.
