Soil looks pretty soaked. How wet do you keep it? Does it have good drainage? Overwatering seems to be a pretty common issue with peppers.

I'd just watered them before taking the picture. Soil is a mixture of dirt and sawdust to promote aeration and drainage. Because of the sawdust I fed Nitrogen. And there are a lot of drainage holes in the container. It's getting t least 6 hrs of sun. I'm in the tropics so sun isn't a problem. I water every other day though. Is that the problem even with the good drainage?

I am kind of wondering if that is even a pepper plant. Do you have some better photos from a different angle? How about some from earlier in it's life?

It is a pepper plant. It's still a seedling. About 3 weeks old give or take a few days. It only grew to about 4 leaves as you see in the picture. And that was it.

Just like you, plants need air to stay alive. Plant leaves use carbon dioxide from the air
to make sugars and starches for the plant to use as food. Another plant part that
needs air is the roots. Plant roots need oxygen to stay healthy and to do their job of
gathering water and nutrients for the plant. This is why it is important that water moves
well through the soil. Good soil drainage allows air into the soil for the roots to use

Hmm. I thought the sawdust would provide all the air spaces necessary. i guess i have to cut back on watering.

SAWDUST??? That might be your problem. Pine bark is great in a pepper potting mix, but wood pulp is poison. Ask me how I know.

My guess is that if you get that into some new plain potting mix, it will do much, much better.

I'm in Ghana and there's nothing like potting mix and that is why I tried to create something with dirt and sawdust. Wood pulp is poisonous? It doesn't depend on the tree it's from? The common trees we work with here are Odum, Wawa and mahogany. These are the same we use for our mushrooms and they do well. Is it a pepper thing?

No, not generally poisonous, but something about the wood pulp is not good for peppers. It could be the tannin in the pulp.

Mushrooms and peppers are two completely different plants. I am not sure mushrooms are even in the same kingdom. They are fungi, not animal, not plant.

Sand? I can get a lot of that. And thanks esox07 for the advice. I'll definitely transplant my peppers into a better medium when i go home. In school now. Hope they survive till i get home

Yes. I think a coarse want is preferred but I don't really know too much about it other than it has been done. Hope they pull through.
