I do not have this particular KitchenAid model, but do have a KA electric oven with gas cooktop. Our puppy sometimes turns on the oven controls. My DH found out there is such a thing as a "child lock"; perhaps that would help you. Our KA dishwasher is always accidentally turned on by just brushing the top controls when opening/shutting the door. I just live with it and cancel the operation. HTH

I had a kitchen aid which was not gas, had so many service calls. Electric control panel went out, twice. Burner went out. And on and on. At one point I was debating whether to sink any more money into it, as I was facing a 2nd over $700 repair. I complained to the service rep that it was only 6 years old, and shouldn't be in that condition (it was an expensive model too). She said that I was lucky that it was still working at all after 6 years! I would not buy another. Don't know about the gas, but do know that they don't stand behind their products.

I have this range and was one of the ones that complained about it accidentally turning off is if you just brushed against the knob. Someone months later pointed out that it has a control lock feature to prevent this. Lo and behold it does! You just hold the start button for 3 seconds and everything locks. Push it for another 3 seconds and it unlocks. Goes to show one should always read the user manual instead of making assumptions.
