need advice on speed oven + 30 inch oven

For our kitchen remodel we are looking at replacing our microwave with a speed oven(either GE Monogram Advantage or Miele Speed ) and putting a regular oven below that on the wall (either a GE Monogram or Miele oven). Does a speed oven successfully replace a microwave? Which brand of appliance is better? I also have a Breville oven on the counter and will keep that.

We have been happy with our GE speed/micro, etc and it did replace a microwave.

I have the Miele Speed Oven (as well as Miele Combi Steam and wall oven). It definitely replaces a microwave. It is great as a regular oven with lots of oven modes. The only downside is it is limited to a max temperature (I think 435 - not home so I can’t check) but I have not found that an issue with my 30” wall oven also being available. I have had my ovens for 11 years and would not hesitate to purchase again.

A speed oven is simply an oven that combines a microwave and convection oven. You can buy a speed oven and install it above a conventional oven (if supported) or buy a double oven (aka combo oven) that includes both in one unit. Note that if you do the former that you will need two electrical circuits, one for each oven.

Note that GE Appliances often sells the same appliance under more than one brand. For example, the GE Profile PSB9240SVSS ($2900) and Monogram ZSB9232VSS ($4400) are virtually the same appliance except for appearance.

Thanks for this confirmation on the speed oven’s capability. Appreciate the advice on appliances!

A Miele Combi Steam oven is often seem as the second oven choice. There's a long thread discussing it you may want to check.

The GE Advantium uses light, microwaves and convection air flow. Cooks faster than a microwave without the rubbery food. I've only done a few of these...but my clients rave about them.

The GE Advantium oven uses high-intensity halogen bulbs positioned above and below the cooking area to generate intense radiant heat. [1, 2]How Speedcook Technology Works

    • Radiant Heat from Light: The halogen bulbs emit powerful light and radiant heat that immediately target the outside of the food, browning, broiling, and roasting it just like a conventional oven but without any required preheating. [1, 2, 3]
    • Simultaneous Microwave Energy: While the exterior is cooked by the halogen light, a controlled boost of microwave energy penetrates beneath the surface. This cooks the inside of the food at the same time. [1, 2]
    • Convection Airflow Support: Many Advantium models also add True European Convection, circulating heated air around the cavity to ensure even cooking temperatures. [1, 2]
    • Sealed-in Moisture: Because the inside and outside cook simultaneously at a much faster speed, natural juices and flavors are locked in, leaving meats tender and baked goods crisp. [1, 2, 3, 4]

We are renovating our kitchen, and I wanted to get both MW and Breville off the counter if possible. From searching online, it appears that I can achieve this goal with a GE Advantium oven and be very happy with the results. I do expect a bit of a learning curve. I will probably buy the Cafe combo with the lower oven. I do understand that the combo only comes in the 120v vs the 240v of a standalone Advantium, but I’m OK with the fact that my chicken will only cook 4 times as fast instead of 8 times as fast. 😊

"I will probably buy the Cafe combo..."

GE Profile PT9800SHSS ($3800) and Cafe CTC912P2NS1 ($4200) are the same except for appearance (which may be important to you).
