We don't get the heat for as long but in inland Orange County, we do get prolonged periods of 90-100 in the summer. The leaves will scorch if a bush is placed in the sunniest of locations. They get ugly but they always seem to recover. I'm growing Emerald, Biloxi, Jewel, Sharpblue, Pink Lemonade, Snowchaser, Sunshine Blue, Southmoon, Oneal, Jubilee, Star, Reveille, Bountiful Blue, and experimentally a bunch of the dwarfs from Monrovia like Jelly Bean, Peach Sorbet. They are in a variety of wood containers, plastic containers, in the ground, and some still need to be potted or planted. Other than the Monrovia dwarfs which I just got last year, all grow fine here. Misty is the most prolific to its detriment but it'd be hard to fail with that one. The berries taste fine to me (not the best) but I've read you need to thin it for better taste. Sunshine blue is no fuss and evergreen like Misty. Sharpblue leaves seem to scorch the easiest and get the ugliest. Jubilee is probably the least attractive of my plants. Produces lots of canes and is light on berry production. O'neal and Southmoon have the prettiest fall foliage but with the lightest berry production. Jubilee and Oneal are probably the highest chill. In my garden, Jubilee is barely starting to put out flowers. All of my other ones are heavily flowered and/or with medium sized berries already. Bountiful Blue produces loads of berries and has pretty foliage when its not damaged. Emerald and Jewel produce very well for me. Pink Lemonade is a nice treat in the middle of the blue blueberries. Reveille is a larger plant with seemingly low production.

I know everyone says blueberries need low pH. They do but I have found that they really aren't that sensitive if planted properly. I use the DWN blueberry mix in pots and in ground and have had good results. It's more a matter of how much you want to spend on digging out a hole and replacing with your more acidic mix.

You didn't ask about where to buy plants. I will tell you the absolute best bargain for large plants (fruiting and often 36" tall from the crown) is Maddock Ranch Nursery in Fallbrook. You can get most of the ones I listed other than Monrovia plants and Pink Lemonade and Reveille at Maddock for about $20 a piece. Evergreen Nursery in Oceanside always seems to have the Pink Lemonade in stock for about $25.

This year I'm experimenting with Ozarkblue, Powderblue and ones I am almost certain will not work due to chill requirement (Bluecrop and Blueray).
