Electric Cooktop Brands

Hello. Been looking at cook tops. Preferably 36 inch. I was really leaning towards induction (I'm already familiar with all the positives) but I'm thinking maybe since we do more grilling I could go with a good 36 inch glass cooktop instead and save the $.

In the house I'm in now I have a standard 30 inch Whirlpool glass top. Had it about 3 years now. Have zero complaints but want something a little bigger. Normally I just wipe it off while still warm with damp rag.

Anyone have a recommendation on brands I should look at or other suggestions? Or those to stay away from? Probably on the $1k range?

We have had a GE and a Whirlpool Gold. The GE was better built. I don't understand your use of a glass cooktop for grilling. Any spatters burn on and cleanup is a mess. If it is available in your area, I would go for gas to do grilling. We don;t have it so we are stuck with electric.

thx. i didn't mean for grilling. I use a gas grill outside for grilling.

The Ceran top I'm familiar with heats the glass to 850*. Anything that spills on it isn't being wiped off with a paper towel. A single edge razor blade and BonAmi and a 3M soft scrub pad with elbow grease galore are the norm.

Plus you may be in luck. 2017 is finally going to be the year manufacturers will produce induction cooktops in the $1k range according to reports from CES 2017. Induction Britain/Europe have had reasonably priced options for years.

We are replacing our electric GE with either a Bosch or Kitchen Aid. If you have existing you might want to check with an electrician. We were told we would need more power run to be able to use an induction (I think that's what it was - I just know there was more cost). I echo if you can use gas I would go that route.
