We are just moving into our home and need some ideas on what to do with the right side of the fireplace. On the left we put in a long bench and plan to put a cushion on top for extra seating. We have a piece on the right just to hold tv components right now. We were thinking of having something built-in with the bottom similar to the bench bottom on the left and the top the same height as the mantel with two shelves in between. Any thoughts? Right now the piece sitting there is fighting the fireplace. The reason we would like to keep it the same height as the mantel is that we have the wiring for the tv components coming out the side of the fireplace wall and we could keep that covered. If we did this will it still be fighting the fireplace?
