We recently used a crackled subway tile. I love it. Sometimes subway looks too stark to me. The crackle gives it a warmer look.

I vote for light, but not white, subway tile as well. Great job in the room!

White may look nice but this is where you can make your kitchen pop vs. look nice. Give it some color. Run a different material-color from the cook top to the hood. Run splash up to the wall cabinets. You have polished stone so maybe you use something with a tumbled or antiqued finish for texture contrast. Hire a professional. Have fun. Cheers.

I like the idea of going with a subway tile, something simple but not boring. I really think our Pearl subway tile would work perfect. What about "trencadis" tiles style? (Gaudi's typical style) Grey grout and white tiles with a touch of color.
