bathroom storage

Hello,

We are about to remodel our small bathroom. I had originally wanted to fill the wall space above the sink (20" vanity) and toilet with medicine cabinets. Two or three or whatever combo filled up the space. To leave a little clearance on either side, the whole thing would need to be about 42-43 inches. I'm not finding a size or combo of sizes of medicine cabinets to fit the space so now looking at alternatives. The space is between a wall and the shower. I would prefer recessed medicine cabinets.

Would any of these ideas work?

Hang two 15" medicine cabinets-once centered over toilet and one over sink and leave a blank space between or add one sconce or hand towel bar/loop between? We wouldn't have space to the right of the sink cabinet because the wall is there so we could only do one sconce.

What about the same idea as above but fill the space between the two cabinets with two or three narrow glass shelves? Just to sort of bridge the gap.

What about one recessed medicine cabinet over sink and a wall mounted, non mirrored cabinet like the one door Ikea Godmorgon over toilet? Would it be odd to have one recessed thing and one wall mounted thing so near each other?

Any other ideas? We desperately need the storage and I prefer closed storage.

That would be my choice. It'd look odd to have a mirror over a toilet. The recessed medicine cabinet would just look like a mirror so a wall-mounted cabinet would be fine next to it. The Godmorgon is 15" wide, correct? So there's enough space between them.

Yes the Godmorgon is about 15" wide. There's a tall one and a shorter one. Thanks!

This is what I was hoping for but the space is an odd size so probably going to have to find an alternative.

You could use the 20" Kohler recessed cabinet. They get good reviews on Build.com.

Would guys prefer to not have a mirror in front of them as they 'go?' (I like the suggestion of a non-mirrored cabinet above the toilet.)

I never really thought about anyone having an issue seeing themselves "go" but I'll have to think about that! Our issue with putting in two 20" cabinets is that the one over the sink needs to be centered but that puts the one above the toilet off center. I would rather sacrifice the storage, as desperately as we need it, than have it be off center. I know that would bug me. Unless we could put a tiny space between them but that would be weird! Thanks for the suggestions!

I was thinking you'd use just one 20" cabinet. 15" isn't enough mirror for a main bathroom. Then use the 15" Godmordon over the toilet. They're different materials and depths so they don't have to match in width. It'd look better if they didn't. That seems like a lot of storage for all your small bathroom things.

Back again. I just saw a post on Home Decorating about medicine cabinets and someone recommended the Pottery Barn cabinet, which comes in a 17" and a 21". The 17" has two shelves and the 21" has four. It didn't occur to me that you would only have two shelves with a 15" cabinet and therefore very little storage. I'd been looking at larger Kohler cabinets for my own bathroom and they have three or four shelves.
