I don't own a Miele but I understand that inside that little door the manual control to open the door does indeed exist. Did you get the manual w/ the unit? If not you might be able to download it online.

Most likely, something is just gummed up with the door seal after sitting closed for a couple of years. I'm guessing it checked out fine two years ago when you bought it? But, any possibility that that something might have gotten damaged or bent in moving or storage? To try and rule that out, you might try taking the weight of the dryer off the top of the washer and then see if you can pop the washer door with the tab release.

Did you open the door before you hooked it up? Like while dusting it? Or has it been unopened for a couple of years?

If the latter, I'm wondering if it's a pressure thing since the manual latch didn't work? A low tech thing to try (just spitballing--I don't have experience with this) is wetting down some heavy towels with hot water and holding them up around the door. Might take a couple of applications, but, like with a jar top or stuck on finger ring, it might expand the air between the bits, and perhaps expand and soften the seal. From that point of view, if it was in the cold in storage and is now in a nice warm house, you might just wait a day and see if it just settles in and opens by itself.

Actually...I wonder if running a cycle would help... Or if it would be a bad idea.

I like JWVideo's lift the dryer idea too. Perhaps you can get a couple of big guys to lift while you try to get the door open? Rather than uninstalling the dryer unless that doesn't work?

Stupid question--while you were trying the manual release, did you try tugging on the door a bit?

Run the express cycle On warm to see if the warm water removes some of the gunk. I have the same machine and the manual release works in mine. Just tried it after this post.

Glad you got it open. I am not sure if the latch can be lubed. Called Miele. If it does need Lube, as them for what type. Standard WD40 is usually not appropriate. Many use a silicone lubricant.

I'm going to need you until I get used to my washer. I was thrilled when you said you have the same machine!

If you ever have a chance, I'd love for you to open your washer's door then press the door button. I just want to know whether you're supposed to hear a sound when you press the door button. Or whether you notice any movement where there door latches on. With my machine, I don't hear a thing or see any movement when I press my door button when the door is open.

Another development...

I used a screw driver to press the latch. I was trying to make my machine to think that I was the door. I got the latch to lock with the screw driver. I then pressed the door button. Guess what? The latch opened or unlocked!

Now I wonder if I actually locked the door and I press the door button whether the door will actually open on its own. I'm afraid to try because I don't want the door getting stuck again. Maybe I'lll call Miele's tech support tomorrow so that I can know what to actually do.

In the meantime, I welcome any tips that might be out there. :)

When you push the door button, I do hear a click on my washer. It sounds like your lock is working correctly. On the Miele machines, you don't touch the door when you unlock them. Just press the button and the door will open slightly. You can then grab the door to open it fully. Your picture of the lock and latch look fine. I would not hesitate to run a cycle in the machine now.

I could not open the doors on my washer or dryer!

I noticed the posts on these websites when trying to find out how to open the doors on my new Míele WWV 980 WPS washer, and Míele TWV 680 WP dryer.

I scoured the manuals to no avail, and no matter what I tried, I could not open the doors. I decided that Míele had reached an unprecedented low with these new machines, and I was desperate to run my laundry wash and dry.

What I discovered, with the assistance of a helpful young lady at Míele in Melbourne, when I was finally able to get my call answered after about 3/4 of an hour, was that I simply had to pull harder on the door, and it snapped open, as did the door on the dryer.

It was not really hard for an old bloke like me to open: I had just been afraid of pulling too hard, and maybe damaging the door locking mechanism. You have to give it a really firm pull, and it snaps open.

Maybe it is Míele's attempt to ensure that smaller children do not open the door too easily to give the family small pet a wash or puff dry. Who knows?

The machines are very easy to set up and use, and my brother and I have quickly set them up to be on our home Wi-Fi network, and controllable on the iPhone, and to use the options we want as Favorites.

Basic options on the machines are closely related to those on our previous Míele washer, the W 487 S WPS, and Míele condenser dryer, the T270 C Novotronic.

I started using Míele products in 1983, with a vacuum cleaner that lasted 23 years until the motor burned out due to some heavy duty cleaning up of cement dust and other rough dust. The second Míele vacuum cleaner has lasted 20 years without a problem, and I've just replaced that one with a new one.

The last washer/dryer combination above lasted 16 years without a problem, and have been replaced in spite of still being in good order. We just wanted to move to more versatile machines. Our Míele conventional oven, a H5681BP, and conventional/microwave oven, a H5080BM, are both 10 years old without problem, and the dishwasher, a G 1220 SC, is 15 year old without a problem.

If you have the latest Míele washer or dryer turned on, and the display is on, and there is a padlock symbol in it, then don't try to just pull it open, but touch the display add laundry option first, and follow your manual. But if the machine is switched off at the start/stop in the display, or at the wall, you should be able to just pull the door open with a very firm pull by placing your fingers behind the orange line on the chrome of the door at the edge, and just pull it open.

I had been convinced I had bought two duds when I "couldn’t" open the doors with a cautious pull, as I tend to do for fear of damaging a new appliance I am not familiar with, but it turned out I just needed to be a bit more assertive about it!

I am not trying to tell you this is definitely the answer in your particular case, but it may well be, if you are a gentle soul like me! Cheers, Gaffer.
