The material that was used on this countertop was soapstone. This peticular piece was and usually is a dark blueish grey in its natural state. It almost looks black. You can also use a mineral oil to make it look more black than blueish grey and it will help seal it better. Soapstone in its natural state is a very porous stone but looks really nice as a countertop!
