I don't know if this happened over night or if I just missed it yesterday, but Anemone has sprouted too!

That's a pretty big area. You went to a lot of trouble with the soil prep and netting, and all the planting, too. It looks like you're off to a good start after only two weeks. I miss growing freesias. Mine came back in SoCal z9. I've never tried Sparaxis. Keep us posted. I can't wait to see some flowers!

I did!

Summers in Florida does lend its self to gardening (too hot, buggy, and wet) and we took a big vacation in October (I saw mountains!) So I did not have money in the fall.

I was soooo itching to garden, this winter has been warm and dry I decided I was not denying myself any longer!

The beds needed amending so badly so even if the bulbs don't work out I have much needed work done for future plantings.

One bed that is not in the picture above has been a Sunflower patch and I wanted to try something different this year.

I grow sunflowers every year but never had one that tall! It looks like you have a cute garden helper, too. I'll be looking for your bulb pics while my snow is taking its time to melt.

I think I have another sprout, I think I see two Ixia!

SandyS that sunflower really was a big surprise! It got to 12 feet! It was the tallest of the bunch!

The year before I tried sunflowers and none got higher than 4 feet! I am so glad I did not give up, learned from my mistakes and tried again and was well rewarded. Previous years mistake was planting way too late and not working the soil enough prior to planting.

You would think I would of learned about planting too late but here I am with my fall bulbs planted in winter!

2/7 updates

Mostly things are growing larger, but I think I have a new bulb that has popped up!

This should be new, lachenalia pustulata. (along with some weeds already growing)

This bed below is in full sun all day, zero shade and is the slowest to grow, but it is also the newest bed, 1st time anything planted here and I did not get a chance to kill all the grass before adding soil to make the bed.

Naked Ladies, they were planted with foliage already above ground, but the leaves are longer and greener than when planted.

It has been just about a month since I put them in the ground.

Freesia is doing great, well minus one, it is a much lighter color than the others.

I think I sprayed this one with some miracle grow, I was feeding some container plants and decided to spray one of the bulbs, I think this was the one, it must have burn.

The sign is deceiving, it is really a Lycoris Red. The Vulips are in front of the Lycoris and I don't think I see them up yet.

I don't remember what these are and it's dark so I am not running back outside, but they are in the slower growing bed so I am super happy to see them!

The anemone are doing good in all 3 beds.

I think these might be Gladiolus

And the Ixia Venus seems to be happy

We got some good rain a few days ago and the bulbs seem to really enjoy the soak. I have been so afraid of turning them to mush and rot I maybe have not been giving them enough water.

Something bit these 2, I hope they recover.

Someone is trying to bloom!

Almost all the bulbs that put out growth right away are doing well, but I have a few that are struggling. I'll post about them at a later date, right now I just want to enjoy a hopeful success!

I'm watching with interest. Your beds look great. The anemones are so pretty. They look the same as mine (still in bloom now) who've been in for 3 years.

I bought a 1/2 price bag of hyacinths late in the season. They are on the tail end of bloom now. Here's the white one. I am becoming a fan of reduced bulbs!

I love white flowers! I never thought I would love such a "plain non-color" color, but white flowers really shine in a garden.

All of them are just gorgeous!!!!

Just an update...

Things are borderline terrible!

I was so worried about over watering the bulbs in my normally wet Florida that I have under watered them because of a severe drought we are having.

The drought goes against everything I know about Florida so I really did not anticipate that the few weeks of no rain would turn to months with no rain. Since I am so use to a dry spell being no longer than 2 weeks I did not understand how dry the ground would get. I thought Ohh this is great I'll water once a week and things will be perfect and in the beginning it was.

But things started to get brown tips (normally) a over water sign here, never thought about not enough water... Then came different soil bugs eating and sucking on the roots, one bug even made a hole in the bulb and claimed as a house with a front door!!

Some things have survived and bloomed and I have to remind myself that I did plant almost 3 months late.

I even got a bloom from something new that I had given up on.
