The thing about your bathroom that is more off putting (to me, at least) than the crown/cabinet colors is the mirrors--why are they so small and short?

I agree I wish they were a better shape for the space; they are bigger than they look though. I am planning to put some type of artwork about them.

Tried it and it looks worse; it's a really big space because they're used to be vanity lights there and we went with the canned lighting; I wanted to let these mirrors sit for a while to see if they would work. They actually are the perfect height and width for what we use our bathroom floor but the blank space about them really bothers me.

And, btw, I think it's fine for the cabinetry to contrast the crown. :)

Personally, I don't care for the combination. I agree that contrast is often delightful - planning on quite a bit myself, actually - but I think that this in that one area where it's too different but not different enough to look nice.

That said, maybe with the right layering techniques, this can be fine. However, I'm not skilled enough to offer advice on layering whites - hopefully a pro can weigh in on that.

Of course, if you're pleased with this look then don't worry about it all - random Internet people don't live in your home. :)

What doesn't seem to work is the style of the cabinets with the style of the molding. Molding is much more formal than the shaker cabinets. Cabs look undersized compared.

The cabinets are a very stark white esp. compared to the ivory crown. A softer white might be better.

I can see you've spent a ton of money on your bath.

Agree that the mirrors would look better turned vertically.

If the blank space bothers you think about sconce lights. One on both sides of each mirror.

Appreciate all the advice! Any ideas about what I could do in the space above the mirrors as is? Am I way off with thinking about some type of neutral art work? Is flipping the mirrors my only option here?

I will comment on the moulding as that is what you asked about. As was mentioned the moulding is quite formal as compared to the cabinet style. If you don't want the expense of removing the crown, ( which I think should be done for sure), then you could paint out the crown the same colour as your wall for this room and it will help the crown to not take front and center attention. But it is fighting with the cabinetry. You have done half a renovation here and typically a renovation is a domino effect and causes other elements to need to be updated or at least addressed. Sorry I hope this helps! What colour is window trim? Is it white or the colour of the crown?

Alternatively, leave the crown and paint the cabinets a different colour altogether -pick one of the darker colours in the granite specs or darker shade of the tile in the shower

with all the beige/ivory/cream tones in the stone and the crown, I have to wonder why bright white was chosen for the vanity. An ivory color would have blended better. If you can't tone down the bright white, then paint all the crown to match that white. It doesn't matter what the rest of the house is, the bathroom is separated.

The mirrors, while nice, just don't work in that space. The frames are too large and it's throwing off the spot. They're too 'heavy' for that area. And no artwork above.

Too many styles are at war here. A lot of tweaking is needed. Remember that this is your house - NOT a movie set.

I think I will look for new mirrors! Thanks for the tips. I am about to change out the cabinets in our kitchen too...replacing the desk with a wall of cabinets, putting in a larger, rectangular island. Now I think I should do off white cabinets...and not shaker style. Suggestions?

why not shaker? what else were you thinking? something like this?
