What wood species are you using?

Not a fan. If you whitewash the plywood and make sure the floor works with the colour, it will be probably be fine, though. And you have a good reason for choosing plywood.

I think it can be a beautiful modern design element if done correctly. It does need to coordinate better with flooring though. We did a mahogany plywood drop ceiling in our bedroom as a design feature with black shadow molding between each piece. A lot of thought needs to be put into execution. But I like the idea with your beautiful modern design.

I just saw your comment Doug after I posted my last comment. I am a big fan of modern design. Asian accents go very Nicely with modern architecture. I say go for it!
