Deep blue, midnight blue or midnight green would look good but may be a bit spooky black hole when all is said and done. Try a terracotta just one shade darker than the darkest brick.

A very dark colour might not be the most welcoming, considering that the door is somewhat shadowed already. I would consider a warm colour like the terracotta that apple_pie_order suggested, or something bright and cheery. A deep blue would probably work too, if it's not too dark.

I'd love to see some "after" photos once you've painted it!

Ms. Fox, I love that peppercorn. Maybe if I added a large brass kick plate it would help lessen the dark scary door problem.

Dark to match roof gets my vote as well. Should give you instant panache :)

Couple of comments, your landscape is too close to the house and needs to be pulled our or replaced. Your roof needs a power wash if that is the mold/mildew that grows from the tree droppings. Not a big deal they can wash the roof with a mildew killer and put a retardant on it to prevent it from reoccurring. I played with several colors and the others are correct. The only other option you have is to hire someone to dubois the door to look like wood - unless you know how to do it. The colors are really tricky with the roof color at least on the monitor.

But in my humble opinion, you need a new front door. See below.

You can add the monkey grass back in, but the landscape needs an update. Too many poodle over pruned shrubs.
