Silgranit Installation?

First time poster. We are in the early stages of a pretty big kitchen remodel. We have already picked out and bought our cabinets. We went with Kraftmaid Hamilton doors, perimeter painted Canvas and the Island, Maple with a Chestnut stain and Onyx glaze. Anyway, that's not really here nor there. My question is about the sink that will go in the island. When we ordered our cabinets, we were planning on using the free Glacier Bay sink provided by HD. Our sink base is 36" for an undermount. Since then, I've read some terrible reviews about Glacier Bay SS sinks, and have also kind of learned that an undermount sink isn't something that's easy to switch out. So in other words, I learned that I don't want a cheap sink. The more time I spend on GW, the more I see how much people love Silgranit sinks with the offset drain. They appeal to me too, I think... Anyway, my question is, do these sinks need a special installation? Would it work on the 36" sink base that was meant for a SS sink of the same size? Thanks in advance!

They don't need a special installation but if you are remodeling and going from what was a double sink to a single sink then yes all of the plumbing from the wall out ( or floor, since this is an island) is going to be redone ( and it is time to consider whether you need a new garbage disposal). So long as you follow the manufacturer's instructions for sink and cabinet size you should be fine. I have the super single in white and I really really like it. If I had a darker countertop as it sounds like you do I would probably get one of their slightly darker colored sinks.

This is a gut job. We are relocating the sink, and going from a double bowl to a single. We chose Salinas White granite actually, and if we go with something else, it will still most definitely be light. I love the look of the white. How long have you have it? And are there truly no stains? What kind of upkeep has it required?

No.

Yes.

Use straps not clips, please. Hercules Universal Sink Harness (Braxton Bragg) or Sink Strap (Regent Stone Products).

If you have not seen one in real life before you commit to it you should order a sample of white from the manufacturer and see it in real life. It is not a solid white like the enamel cast-iron sinks. Some people really do not like it. I am fine with it and mine does not seem to stain or get marks but I have definitely read about other people having issues with stains and with gray markings from pots. I do take a microfiber cloth to it every night and occasionally I do use those white sponges, both have the effect of returning the sink to as pristine a white as it gets.... I have had mine for about two years. They are extremely delicate until they are completely installed. I don't make a habit out of dropping things in the sink, however, I have dropped things and it has not cracked, a knife tip did put a small chip in it. Yes, I would do it again, although I might pick a mid range color just because I think some of the colors are beautiful.

Thank you! We are hard on our sinks, and I have a 2 year old boy and a 9 month old girl who will be even harder on it. Perhaps we should stick with SS, which we have now, and I do not mind the scratches.

I do love the look of a white sink though!
