The wet coefficient of friction is probably too slippery on the blue floored bathroom. And the grout lines are so thin they will not contribute to traction

@rockbird we are so glad to see you are interested in zellige. it's a gorgeous tile. we always recommend ordering samples to see what the tile looks like. depending on lighting and camera the zellige can look quite different in photos. if you would like to email elizabeth@cletile.com she can help you order some zellige samples free of charge.

This is an older thread but nobody (incuding cle tile itself) answered the question... I am also contemplating the zellige for shower walls and floor.

Rockybird, what did you end up using? I am so curious! I am waffling between zellige, Fireclay tile (cleaner look but beautiful colors/finish), and a more generic and waaaay cheaper big box store tile.

@osirises @rockybird zellige actually has a long history of being used in all types of water features. along with protecting and decorating the water lines of pools and fountains, complete pools have been designed using zellige, their unique qualities are reminiscent of water and therefore enhance these features, greatly. plus, it is not hard to set up- check out our installation guide here (https://cletile.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/231452848-zellige-installation-guide)

to give the tiles a "glow"- use a gloss sealer. now, if you are worried about slippage- there are anti-slip sealers you can use, we recommend porous plus 511. with that said, no tile is "slip proof", but slippery conditions can be minimized by (a) limiting foot traffic in wet traffic conditions, (b) prompt removal of contaminants, (c) effective drainage, (d) proper maintenance. for in full information on slippage/maintenance/grout/tile specifications check out our zellige specification guide here (https://cletile.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005265847-zellige-specification-guide-)

@osirises - I chose a custom dark blue/teal fireclay tile; but I am still considering cle tile for other areas (bathrooms, fireplace) of the house. They have quite a few other tiles I like - cement tiles, etc.

Do not order zellige from Cle Tile!!! Order from Zia Tile or from Country floors. I have attached a photo below of the first box of zellige my contractor unpacked from them that they said was normal and refused to help resolve.Buyers beware they refuse to even listen to you and is not worth the pain when there are other amazing companies out there!

Ordered zellige tile from Cle. It arrived and we unpacked on the box to which every tile was damaged with large pits blue dye and cracks.This photo below was one box and the first box we unpacked. I know this is not acceptable as we also ordered zellige from Zia and country floors where the zellige came beautifully distressed with understandable flaws. Cle I contacted directly as soon as my contractor called me refusing to install it in its state. When I called I was dismissed over and over again and told the tile damage was normal. We had to discard the cle tile and use the tile we had ordered for another location. Cle fails to actually read my email and try to resolve the issue that we had that could have been solved by replacing the boxes that were severely damaged tile. I would never use the tile we were sent in my client's homes. Please save yourself the disappointment and order from my other two suppliers I have noted above, they may cost more but it's worth your sanity. I was getting in contact to resolve an issue not be educated on a tile that I am very familiar with. Buyers beware!

Yikes! How disappointing.

Strongly recommend not buying from tile. I had such a terrible experience and they have the WORST customer service. Downright rude and insulting when I sent them the below photo to show how the tile arrived to our house. This is not the usual “imperfections” you expect with Zellige. This was faulty product for which they offered no apology, refund or exchange. Appalled and disappointed by the whole experience and how poorly they handled it. We bought other Zellige from Country Floors and Zia tile and had no such issues. Love the Zellige look but Cle tile is not the place to buy from.

I'm kind of wondering why Amber and Catherine Hrdy had the same experience with Cle, recommend the same alternative companies, and somehow have the exact same picture of tile damage.....

ETA: It looks like Catherine has since removed her post. So for people reading through this thread later, for context, I want to make clear that another user "Catherine" posted the same exact photo as Amber of the damaged Cle tiles, told a nearly identical story, and recommended the same companies instead of Cle. Despite being a different person. It certainly reads like paid bots accidentally posting in the same thread. I have no experience with Cle tiles to recommend or not, but I would definitely be hesitant to order from these competitors who seem to be posting false negative reviews of Cle to drive business to their own sites.

Weird to change user names and then use the exact same picture. But I will throw in that I (and my contractor) also had a bad experience with Cle. The product (encaustic tiles) were as expected (and I love them), but their customer service was extraordinarily unhelpful. I won't be going with them again when we do our other bathroom.

So I recently got the contact of a direct supplier from Morocco for zellige. Do not waste your time with Cle.
Adil after my terrible experience with Cle took me under his wing and made sure I was happy.
He recently supplied all the zellige for the Santa Barbara new country club I have attached some photos below. He won’t send you bad quality tile. Also if any of you like us are worried about install he sells zellige already in sheet form so you don’t have to worry about install.
We just installed a kids bathroom and doing a master next but tile arrived beautiful. And wanted to share.

Don’t buy from Anne Sacks/Seattle. Worst customer service..

Urbanfitz yes they actually supply a lot of zellige to other vendors. They were excellent to work with and Adils product was top notch. We chose them as they can ship sheets if zellige as we chose a herringbone. If you get in contact they can send you their colors and they do beautiful mosaic zellige along with the basic squares. I know their website sucks but don’t let that put you off. Just send them an email with what you are looking for. Or I do know that they supply country floors with their zellige so would be able to see what they have there. Will say going directly to moresque means that you are saving a lot of money.

Hi! Following this thread as I am on the cusp of ordering zellige for my kitchen backsplash. I had decided on cle because their weathered white has the soft warm tones I am looking for. Zia has a beautiful product too. I got samples of their “pure white” and “Casablanca” zellige. The pure white has a cool greyish undertone. The Casablanca has a griege tint. Both very pretty but not the soft white I am looking for. I am waiting for “natural white” samples from cemento tile to consider. I know now I will not want to use Cle. It’s too expensive to have so much waste of super chipped product. I looked at the Country Floors website per others’ recommendation and do not see any authentic clay zellige. It looks like that have a ceramic zellige lookalike which is not the same thing. There is another company in San Fran- Moorish Architectural Design. They have an “atlas white” and a “dirty white.” Does anyone know anything about this company and their zellige? Thank you for the very helpful discussion of zellige!

Has anyone ever dealt with Riad tile. Just received sample of their Zellige. It was perfect. The only other reference I have for it is LeAnn Ford used it on Rock the Block tv show. She has the photos up on their site. Anyone out there have experience with this company?

I am going to provide a different perspective from @Maher Interiors and @Catherine Hrdy. Not saying they are wrong, just that Zia may not be a perfect savior either.

We bought zellige from both Zia and Cle due to supply chain issues. Zia SENT US THE WRONG TILE and still refused to take a return or even cover shipping for us to exchange it for a different tile! See attached photo of the boxes they arrived in clearly labeled "water blue", when we ordered Glacier Blue. The labels on the "water blue" boxes are also different looking from the other Zia tile color.

I included photos of the "water blue" tile at our house, as well as the other zellige tile we purchased. Compare the actual photos to the "screenshot" grid matrix, and tell me with a straight face that this "water blue" color isn't a completely different color.

You would think after having purchased thousands of dollars of other tile from them, and only complaining about this one color that even the label says is a different tile, they would try to do the right thing here.

Help! My tile i stalled is telling me that if we use Tiles of Ezra 2x6s in a herringbone that we purchased (through him, for this purpose, always with the herringbone in mind!) the herringbone will travel up to 3inches off line from floor to ceiling in a single direction and we will end up feeling like the walls aren’t plumb when we stand in the shower. But these zellige suppliers have pictures of 2x6 herringbone all over their sites. What am I missing? I understand and embrace the handmade imperfection and variation but this is sounding like a problem. I don’t know whether to push back and make him set it or compromise my design??
