Let's admit it: open plan layouts are great in many ways, but can be tricky when it comes to placing the furniture and separating the areas.

Keep in mind: proper planning is the key.

How to decorate a long room layout (like the one in the pictures below):

1. Make sure you leave enough space between separate areas

2. Avoid making the TV the focal point, but at the same time make sure you are still able to see it.

3. Use oversized rugs for space delimitation

4. Create connection between spaces by using the same materials, textures and prints

5. The kitchen and the dining area work best together (next to each other)

6. Add plants into the space adjacent the outdoor to create a beautiful merge between the two. For example, in the kitchen below you could add plants near the glass door.

7. Keep it clean!
