Advice for living room layout

You guys gave some great advice last time and I'm hoping for more. I'm struggling with creating a more complete look for my living room. It feels more comfortable but empty and while I know that I need to at least get a new TV stand, I feel like there's something else missing.

Do you guys have any suggestions on lay-out, design, etc.? Can you suggest a TV stand that would look nice in this room? The lay-out of the windows and archway into the dining room make it difficult but I'm determined to find something that will work.

Your house is cool, your stuff is cool, and your dogs are really really cool!

The tv won't fit on the wall between the door and the arched doorway? It would be unconventional but it would allow you to put the sofa on the wall under the dogs.

Assuming the tv stays where it is which you've been very clear is happening, this is what I would do:

-push the rug further under the sofa so it is at least fully under the chaise. Add some yellow and blue pillows.

-turn the sofa table around so it isn't over top of the sofa, then tuck two ottomans or storage baskets under it. That way you can put the throw from the yellow chair on the sofa instead; that chair should shine!

-move the cute yellow stool into the corner by the door.

-I love the blue trunk and I understand the need for a coffee table but your sofa table can function as that. You seem comfortable with a little bit of quirkiness so I would use it as my tv console. I know it's a bit small for that purpose, so if possible find another the same height and use them together. Place one piece of tempered glass across both to create a level unit. On the TV note, gather all the cords together so they all hang down in a group. You could even cover them with conduit or tape them together with washi tape that matches your wall colour! Or if they are long enough, braid them together! Something to tidy them up.

-move the yellow chair closer to the window and pull it closer to the sofa.

-tuck the dog bed in the corner between the window and the tv wall.

Finally, but actually firstly, create layers of light with a table lamp on the sofa table and floor lamps in the corners by the tv.

I would personally switch the placement of sectional and tv. Is it right at the entrance of your house? If so, it would be nice to walk in and see the sectional with nice art behind it rather than a tv.

It is but the problem is that there's only one wall in which the couch can be on, which is the one with the dog photos. If we place it there, the only place the TV can be is right there it currently is because there's an open archway directly across from the TV. It's a bit of a conundrum.

What does that curtained archway go to? Could it be converted into a TV recess?

Hi Devin - yes it is a conundrum.

Have you tried rotating the sofa? Imagine the back of your sofa facing the archway to the dining room. Then get a substantial wall unit which fills up the entire wall where the dog pics are now and place your TV in that.

Put the console table on the wall where the TV is now. Make that wall your gallery/art wall. A floor lamp or table lamp there as well as a vase or large low life plant.

I like your different yellow chair which coordinates with your area rug but......they do not connect to the sofa or drapery and the rug is too small for the room.

Consider continuing the blue wall color on the ceiling. Right now my eye is drawn to the white ceiling which does not help to pull things together.

I like your furniture arrangement in the room. Look for a TV console that is longer than the TV, taller than your current one, and with closed storage for a cleaner look. Then add something vertical to the left of the TV - either artwork, a floor lamp, or shallow shelving. Your other alternative is to built-in shelving around your TV.

Aw, thanks Lindsey! My dogs are my favorite part of the house :)

No, unfortunately the wall space between the archway and door is way too narrow. I wish! I would prefer that the TV stays where it is only because my husband had a difficult time hanging it and I don’t think he’d appreciate if I asked him to move it.

What do you mean by “turn the sofa table around”? Specifically turn it where? What if I put it up against the wall with the dogs?

I mean put the other long side of the sofa table against the sofa. That way the deeper part that is currently over the back of the sofa will be sticking out like a table edge instead, and you can add storage baskets or ottomans under it.

I get the impression the table behind your sofa is more of a snack bar for the big game than and actual sofa table. Maybe it calls for some stools.
