Thanks Lindsey. I agree that brass looks really nice on dark doors. I haven't painted the doors white yet, but I don't think I would paint them any other color since the room already has dark gray on the walls. Do you have white doors? If so, what hardware finish do you have? Thanks again. Zaida.

We're in the middle of a renovation so interior doors are not yet finished, nor is there any trim or baseboards. I'm actually debating between natural dark wood (craftsman style) or white for doors and trim. The doors on the bedrooms are pocket doors so no hardware and the bathroom doors are "retro" 70's brass with most of the finish worn down to the metal on natural wood.

Would you consider just painting the trim and leaving the doors wood? That would give it a lift and still save you the time, energy, and money of replacing all the hardware (including hinges--you must do those too) and painting. Another interesting idea might be to paint the doors a lighter grey. I painted our bathroom built-in grey and left the antique bronze hardware and I loved the result. If you're interested in that idea let me know--I'll hunt out the paint can and tell you the colour :)

nice ideas....the doors in the family room are oak solid doors so maybe I could re-stain with darker stain too. I have seen pics of white trim with stained doors and it looks nice too. Can you please send photos of your grey door? I love the brass hardware on grey kitchen cabinets but haven't seen this combo on a door. All of the trim and doors upstairs is still wood :o{ What a process. I am a bit upset because I just literally replaced all knobs to antique brass when I could have chosen another finish. But the thought of replacing all hinges too stopped me from going with a ORB or black all over. I can still exchange the knobs though since I still have the packaging with me. Thanks.

the knob looks more brownish than the photo I took. I think the flash made the brass stand out more. The knob looks more like this:

The pulls I had are on drawers. But it wouldn't make a difference--if you like the brass with grey on cupboards you'll like it on your doors too! I think a dove grey would look great with the antique brass handles. The trim could still be white. A darker brown would make them disappear.
