IKEA Grimslov doors on existing boxes with face frame

I "thought" I came up with a brilliant plan to update our kitchen rather inexpensively. We were going to replace all of our cabinet doors/drawers with IKEA Grimslov and paint the boxes to match.

problem:

the doors come predrilled for the hinge. We cannot use IKEA hinges because they are for frameless cabinets. Mine have a face frame.

I bought Blum compact face frame hinge at Lowe's but the predrilled holes where the screws would go are way too deep. Did I buy the wrong hinge? And if so, what do I get? My husband suggested filling in the holes with a glued in dowel, but that seems time consuming and hard to do 'neatly'. Any thoughts/suggestions are welcomed and greatly appreciated!

Those holes on the IKEA doors are meant to take a plastic plug similar to a dowel with a hole already drilled in it. It's a method designed to make the hinge, which comes with the screws already screwed tightly through the hinge into this plastic plug, press into place. A quick mounting system. You can buy those plugs or your model of hinge should come with them to give you that option. You can look at an IKEA hinge to see the plug and screw size.

Blum sells their hinges with a few options for the side holes. Wood screw (which won't work for you), and inserta or expando which will. The expando are easiest to use. The inserta take more force to get in. I sure you can buy them on line. I get mine from my wholesaler who doesn't sell to the public. The real problem is how are you going to fit them in existing face frames?

Jdesign... I am not sure how we will attach. I'm going to order and try it out. Will post pics if we get it to work. Another thing, hinges are expensive!

Brenda were you able to figure out what hinge to use or how to fill the holes securly? I have the exact same problem ordered the blum hinges and the cabinet door holes are way to big! I would love to know!

Sorry!! Just seeing your comments now! We got the doors on, but they didn’t quite look right because they seemed too big for the face of the cabinet. I wish I would have taken pics when they were on, but unfortunately I didn’t. Did you get it to work? Post a pic!!

My problem is described by jdesign. Doors at Ikea are made for frameless cabinet. The hinge part that goes on the cabinet mounts directly onto the cabinet interior of the cabinet. The face frame hinge is mounted onto the 3/4" face frame. WHERE do you mount this part of the hinge? The other problem is the Ikea door bore is smaller. I think it's 32 mm diameter vs 35 mm for the Blum hinges. HOW do you insert a 35 mm into a 32 mm hole? I'd really appreciate the answer. I badly need to do something about my kitchen. Thank you
