aw_amanda. Did the paint or flooring store mix the stain or did the flooring people do it? Not sure how to do it, but it is just what I am trying to achieve with red oak floors.

Hi, you can a sample of gray stain. It won’t have the orange or red undertones. Hope this helps

We also have red oak floors, too and also an exposed brick wall to contend with. Looking for advice on a Floor color that quashes the red and coordinates with the brick.

The two classic gray/ country white looks great. definitely drowned out the orange/red tones. I am just in the planning stage of doing ours!

Will someone enlighten me as to why those floors are being redone? Because we had to have GRAY walls? Is that it? The original was actually pretty fine. If anything? Darker and browner. None of the three shown are fabulolous.

Jan, just to clarify that I am the person with the brick and I am definitely planning to go darker and browner. Something like provincial is my current thought. I would not try to lighten my floors unless I painted the brick but at this point I am thinking I’ll leave the brick as is.

I'd fur over the brick and drywall. What's the reason for it? Is it a loft? Industrial space and it was left to acknowledge that? What's the purpose of a big wall of brick? It was the exterior of the house at some, point and you or someone added on?

What we did was sand the wood floors and apply matte polyurethane( water based) 2 coats. It looks great not yellow!

The floors were just sanded and it looks like it’s white oak not the trad oak. Still trying to find the right color. I don’t want to go dark so will probably try to mix classic grey with country white, not sure what it will give me. May be I need to add a drop of Jacobean to take off the bluish grey tone. I also want to try the country white by itself, not sure what I will get either. Asking my flooring guy to do some samples for me before they apply the stain. Please share your experience, like I said I don’t want too dark but don’t want light either so medium darkness in the taup/warm grey tone. Thanks

It’s a very good idea to test some stain colors directly on the sanded floor, you’ll get a better idea! Good Luck

@workers bee cobtractor... which is which on your sample? Which is country white?

Just sharing... the color came out really nice... I can’t even say the ratio we were just mixing the country white with Jacobean and testing it until it got close ... I love how it looks different on various lighting.

Chershouse… the floors look great! What did use to stain them?

Thank you. 4 parts special walnut, 2 parts natural, 1 part classic grey. 3 coats of Loba Satin top coat.

That picture in ur questions I just found out its not on redoak like it says when you Google it. That pic comes up weathered oak but it's not on redoak

@chershouse What brand of stain are the colors you chose?

I used all Minwax stains on my red oak floors in the above photo. I’ve had them a few months now and really love the color. I also love walnut stained red oak floors, but I have two very hairy dogs and dark floors were not an option for us.

I wish I had the link, but there are others that used a combination of stains with weathered oak as the base and it is beautiful as well. Came out a little lighter, but it all depends on your preference. Good luck on your project!!

You really need to go to a stain supplier with a piece of leftover flooring. They may be able to do several samples of available stains to give you an accurate sample of the end color.

Andressa, were you able to find the stain you wanted like the one on the picture you posted? I am trying to find that stain as well.

Adela, looking at the comments, it was determined that the stain in the photo is on white oak, not red oak flooring.
