It definitely pops! The pic helps but I'm going to first paint a square. I need to see it at different times of the day. What do you think? Did you like it? I didn't see the second pic you had attached until just now. The mill work is beautiful in both. I'm really drawn to the paint color in the second one.

I do like the white molding with your current wall color. It is an elegant look which I think you're going for.

I think the dining set looks a little drab with this glamorous and bold wall treatment. But overall nice job!

I think it's the big contrast that's a bit not right. Maybe take the beige from the area rug and use that for the draperies and reduce the eggplant on the walls by adding the beige to the wall. The glare off the bulbs is very disturbing, so I would add silk shades to the sconces and chandelier. Eliminate the floor lamp. Not sure why you would even need that in a dining room. Leave the upholstery as it works with the table and chairs.

Finish painting the trim and install a dimmer for the chandelier. I'm still not satisfied with the drapes; just not elegant enough yet. I'm envisioning silk with a slight break at the floor to add the baroque elegance your room requires. These look to be subtly striped and that style of fabric might also work well on the chair backs. I agree the checks are a bit too casual for this room.

I really like the way you did your walls with the trim the same color - it's dark and moody and elegant. The white squares will introduce too much visual clutter. I would leave them the way they are.

I would leave it the way you had it. It will be to busy in my opinion. Nice room.

It was subtle before and the wall provided background. If you paint the trim the wall takes precedence. I'd prefer the focus be the table, fabrics and textiles.

Lots of suggestions, but it's easier to go through them and say NO to the ones out of the question for you. That will leave you with a much smaller number to think about.

I actually like the wall both ways. White molding, or all one color, so you decide (smile). I vote a big no on beige walls and the deep purple squares. After looking again, I like the white trim a tad bit better. The all one color wall/trim is more of a contemporary/transitional twist and your dining room is traditional elegance and can handle the extra visual. I also like the drapery and chair fabric. It works with your style and it's lovely together.

Darzy, thanks so much! I just have the middle squares to complete. I'm keeping the drapes because I made them. My first time tackling sewing something like that. Should be able to send a pic tomorrow.

I like the trim white also. It indeed reads less contemporary which suits your space.

To be honest I love the paint color and trim as it is! I would just add more bright/reflective pieces in the space if you feel like it's too dark overall. A brighter area rug might also help!

Won't finish the trim tonight. Here's what I have accomplished thus far.

Since changing my dining room furniture and rug are not an option, what if I painted my dining table and chairs black? I heard about a gel stain product that I'm tempted to try. Plus, I think it may look better with everything I have going on.

No, No No! Your furniture is traditional and lovely. Painting the furniture black would make it look like you're trying to "update" to transitional but your room is perfectly traditional. Finish your molding, stand back and admire your beautiful dining room!

This is my dining room set in a darker color. It came in two shades and I chose the lighter. I was thinking of going to this color. This may help with a better visual.

Suggest that you change out the gold mirror. The mirror seems too dominant in that room, and you already have a lot going on. The table and chandelier are your focus, the large gold circle seems to compete. You could replace with a painting that is not so dominant. There is no gold elsewhere in the room.

I was initially against the trim getting painted in white, but now that I see it finished, I think it looks great. Fantastic job on the whole room!

The only thing that bothers me in your room is the floor lamp right under a sconce. Might there be a better location for it?

Izeve, I actually moved it to another corner and I'm thinking of returning the faux tree. I had just purchased it for that room. I'm also considering going to a solid color for the back of the chairs. Something to match the front.

I like the different pattern on the back of the chairs! I think there are to many things on your sideboard; it's rather small for the space so I would edit that. Or get a larger sideboard;)

I vote for: no tree and keep the chairs as is. To my eye, you're done!

Stop! Your room is done. I think changing the back of the chairs is a bad idea. The pattern you have on the backs of your chair breaks up your blocks of color in the room ( drapery block, wall block), gives something fun for your eye to look at. I think the chair backs bring a youthful touch to your beautiful room. I would love to sit at your table and eat, very warm, cocooning room.

3345navy, I think your room is lovely the way it is. It seems you keep wanting to add things and change what you have in here that's all. The chairs are great. You don't need the plant. You don't have to feel the need to fill every empty space. Your done.

I like the checked backs! The room is elegant and the check is a bit whimsical and in the perfect color. Bravo. Yes to painting the wall trim to match the wainscoting.
