My kitchen designer did not recommend marble for countertops, nor concrete, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't use them. Shades in the bathroom mean they're going to have to be replaced now and then. They'll get damp from the steam, etc. and get dirty fast. If you don't mind new shades every 6 months, who cares. Unfortunately some designers and consultants are into form without function, or function without form. You have to consider both.

ps: if they make LED's for this type of light, that would make them very nice and bright.

I'll answer the question posted by Rossi62 if you don't mind. the sconces are ambient. the room, a complete remodel and partial addition, includes excellent overhead lighting as well and everything is on dimmers. It's best to have a combination of fuctional, task, and ambiant...and natural light! This is a lightly used Masterbathroom....getting light shades dirty when mounted at eye height certainly was not a concern.
