Chipper Shredder

Yesterday I bought a new Chipper Shredder, but not being intimately familiar with the unit did not realize the carburetor had be stolen while it was sitting in the store display area. They unbolted the carburetor from the motor block. The display area is an outside area in front of the store, and it has been raining heavily in the past several weeks.

My inclination is to return the unit and not accept a repair on this one, as I don't know if or how much water has gotten into the engine. Nor do I know what collateral damage was done when the carburetor was stolen.

I called the store about an hour after I got it home with the unit, and am waiting for their response.

Any suggestions on how to proceed on this problem.

It matters where you buy you equipment. The man from Tractor Supply store where I bought the Chipper Shredder call a few minutes ago and said to bring the one with out the carburetor in and they would give me a different new unit. They said they were going some distance to get it or I could have picked it up today.

I wonder if I would have gotten that service at the Big Box Cub Cadet dealer in the area.

That is a nice story and outcome. I wonder if the carb was actually pulled by a staff member for a repair, leaving the chipper out for general observation, and who forgot to tell others that he had done it.

Follow up on my new Cub Cadet.

As I read in several places it is nearly impossible to put oil into the engine because of its location. I solved this problem by cutting off the handle of a gallon milk jug, and then cutting the top off of one end. Now all I do is squeeze the end that has the top removed and slip it into the filler hole, and poor the oil into the other end. Cheep and I can see the oil level through the cut off section of the handle.

One of the things that surprised me was the engine acts as one of the old flywheel engine of the early 1900's. To start the engine you spin the fly wheel with the starter rope and then the engine starts to fire and continues until it is firing as it is suppose to. When you turn it off, as with the fly wheel engine it takes time for the rotation to stop.

Worked about four hours the other day, and am planning to use it to day again. Works great. Only problem was it runs out of gas.
