Don't worry, your bulbs will be fine. That is how amarillis works. They go dormant for the winter months and come back early spring, often with flowers first to be followed by leaves. I'm sure someone more experienced will come along and explain it better than I have, but for now, relax and enjoy :)

I too think that they will be fine. They should send up leaves later, but not being familiar with the horror that is Roundup, I'm wondering how long it will stay in the soil and if it may damage the roots. I don't know. You might read the label if you encounter some in a store and see how long the poison lasts. It may be inert after a short period of time. Others on this forum should know as I wouldn't use the stuff for any reason.

I don't know if it's just me but in decades past we were always inundated with robins and these past 10 years I've noticed far fewer robins on the lawns of our perfect lawn neighborhood. If robins could read, I'd put out a sign inviting them to eat our bugs worms, no pesticides or little poison flags anywhere and our lawn looks it!!

Good for you for firing them, I would have made them compensate you for the beautiful flowers they killed.

Anja, I couldn't agree more. I actually find it kind of relaxing and rewarding when I weed the garden by hand. I don't use pesticides because I don't like them but more importantly I have a pup that loves to go in the garden with me while I'm weeding :-)))

I agree that the amaryllis will likely come back eventually. I would leave all the bulbs in the ground for a long time before giving up on them.

Round up does not linger in the ground. It generally only affects plants when it is sprayed on the leaves, you can spray it on trunks of trees and they are not affected.

I have never sprayed amaryllis, but I spray weeds around the edge of my amaryllis. Weeds with bulbs usually die back to the bulb and then regrow after a little while. I think the round up kills the roots so the plant has to grow new roots. I have seen amaryllis in other peoples yards that were sprayed with round up and the flowers were misshapen, but the plants lived.

Most of my amaryllis (in Tampa) are just starting to show growth. It has been really dry here this winter. I just started to water again to get the plants to grow out. If you do not water it will be longer before the plants flower but they should be OK.
