About 23 years ago, we bought a Thomasville dining room set for our then newly build house in Colorado. A friend helped me today to upholster the chairs with a more contemporary pattern (seen in the photos). My husband and I had replaced our old crystal 1990 chandelier with a modern one that we both love.

But I would like to take the dining room "facelift" one step further. I am envisioning a contemporary/modern/ eclectic look with an inviting and warm and charming atmosphere.

I would like to keep the table and the chairs, because we had wonderful dinners with family and friends. So many good and warm memories.

However, I am tired of the hutch and the sideboard (not visible in the photo).

I would appreciate input on how I can achieve the look I am looking for.

Has anyone experience with painting tables and chairs black? I could envision the chairs painted black with the center (where the spine rests when you sit) another color.

We need storage for glasses and dinnerware. With which piece can I replace the hutch? Any idea for a substitution for a sideboard?

I was thinking on one side have a new "storage" unit and on the opposite wall a large modern painting or framed photographs.

I am open for all suggestions.
