It's really hard to put a TV on a wall and not make it the focal point. You can do something like below and add pictures around the TV to detract some of the attention. No matter what you decide, your stand is too small for the TV.

Also, sometimes people will paint the wall behind the TV a dark color to make it blend in.

Or you could go the route of putting the TV in a cabinet with doors so you can close them when you're not watching.

The big heavy mirror hanging higher than the window and door frames, and looking like a tumble could crash the TV isn't what you need. Unless you are sentimentally attached, sell it on Craig's List and apply the $$ to get a credenza 25% wider than the TV. Keep in mind that hanging items should center 5' above the floor or have their bottom frame 5" above furniture they're with.

Replace mirror with a slim cabinet to put your tv and acessories inside of. Obviously the trend is to dsplay the largest tv possible, preferably on wall where mirror is, bur since that is not your vibe, a nice cabinet will do and dress up the space.

I love the mirror, (it look antique?) but as mentioned it's too large for over the tv and tiny stand. Have you tried it hung vertically over the fireplace? That would give some weight to that corner of the room, to offset the tv. Do you have anything else you could put the tv on? Even a low bookcase, console table or even a wider dresser? With something sized better underneath the tv you wouldn't have to decorate stuff around it.

Unfortunately the fireplace wall angles inward as it goes up, so the mirror won't work there.... Love that idea though! I will use it on a different wall. The Chest the TV is on is not meant to be permanent, we were just trying to get an idea where we wanted the height of the TV to be. I like the idea of putting a darker color behind the TV...

Ok.... so we moved the mirror & moved the credenza to that wall...... Attaching some photos. Any further thoughts on what to now do with the TV wall/furniture placement so appreciated!! Thanks for all your help!!!

do you have a coffee table or ottoman for the middle? and that's a lot of seating. do you normally have 6-7 people seated in there?

Beth H, unfortunately this is the only room in our house we have for sitting, so if we have multiple people over, there is no where else, besides the eating areas or outside...... Think a coffee table would fill it in nicely , & thinking of maybe getting a more colorful rug...

I feel your pain. I have a small living room and no family room. The larger cabinet looks much nicer than the trunk. The floor lamp seems to crowd the area too much. Set your furniture up first. A larger rug would be more suitable for the space. Some nice pillows AFTER you purchase a new rug. The mirror still seems too much for the sofa wall. Please show us your choices and an update. Good luck. You can make it work with just a few tweaks. I agree with you that its best to make your guests' comfort your first priority. I have three doorways and a fireplace in my living room. Whew! I finally purchase two sofas and placed them across from each other. The best decision that I have ever made in the thirty years that we have lived here. No more trying to fit the perfect chairs in an imperfect room.

Your TV could be bigger for the size of the room, but it should be set so the middle of the screen is at eye level for a seated viewer. Remove the throws from the back of your sofa. Lay the blue one on a recliner to spread the blue across the room. I think your room would benefit from more color. With the exception of the throw and pillows it is all browns and beiges. If you buy a new rug look for one with colors that appeal to you, then add new pillows and art that mirror the colors in the rug. THIS one contains most of your current colors.

I much preferred your original arrangement. It was open and uncluttered. Unless you have frequent guests, consider bringing in light weight OCCASIONAL CHAIRS or even upholstered DINING CHAIRS from another room only when you need them. Keep like chairs together as was done in the photos below.

You furniture placement is really constricted by the large amount you have in the small room. I agree with Beth, that you have 2 too many huge recliners. How often do you need to seat that many people? If it's daily, that's one thing, but if it's just occasionally, I think removing 2 and bringing in 2 smaller chairs from the dining room is perfectly acceptable. A coffee table would have to be huge to service all that seating. At the least arrange them so they are not mismatched pairs, match them up. I like the mirror over the sofa. I don't think you need anything else on the tv wall. Agree that the rug seems small, but I would address the chair issue first.

Thanks Rocketjcat! Will place two of the chairs in a spare bedroom until they are needed. Hoping to keep my mirror, as I just have no where else for it to go at this point & I really like it! Including another view of it, as the one photo makes it seem as though it is right below the sofa, & it is not.

Update!!! Ok, here is what I currently have:
I took some suggestions & got ride of the one lamps, moved to one large sofa out & trying two loveseats instead. Bought some curtain panels that I added to give some color (which I love... bought enough to do the whole window, but am thinking just adding one more panel at each end & leaving the solid color in between looks good... thoughts?). I bought the patterned rug in the picture, but do not like it & am thinking of doing a solid teal or poppy color instead. Question: I'm thinking round... do I buy large enough to go just under the furniture, or larger to go all the way under to encompass everything... not sure which looks ok is best.... thanks again for any advice, as it has been so helpful!!
