I like the painting but it's hard to say if it will work or not, depending on what you end up doing with the furniture, etc.

Beautiful dining room! I love the colors in the painting and it will work if you bring in some pillows that have colors from the painting. Greens and red would work really well and I also suggest a lighter colored sofa. One of the problems right now is that the area is too dark with that large dark sofa along with the darker colors in the painting. To showcase that beautiful painting--I suggest adding some light--either flanking the painting or above it. That would also help with the darkness. I would go neutral with the sofa in either beige or gray. Here is a photo of my living room. Please pay attention to the sofa color:

When we moved into this house in 2015, I purchased neutral sofas (I also have a neutral colored reclining sofa in the family room) and decorated and added color in my accessories. I like working with a blank canvas and adding color when I decorate.

Too modern of an art piece for your traditional décor. Also the colors do not work together. Best wishes!

Hi London Staging...my post says that I will be replacing the furniture. This was my old room before we tore it apart...and the painting was just leaning on the couch, covering other artwork. Are you saying that it can't work with the dining room?

Debp...Funny you should say that...I was JUST thinking about trying it in the dining room. It would help that room look more funky and less ho-hum - I know the colors are a bit bright, but I will post a pic of it there. I have another inspiration pic for my piano room if the painting goes elsewhere. I have envisioned the sofa wall with a fun collection of my art, my kids' art, and other original pieces I have. This pic is totally my style...

I say keep it. I love it. Get some solid red, blue or green furniture (same shades as in the painting.) Use it in either the piano room or the dining room. Don't hide it in the bedroom.

As for the painting...I'm not sure.
Kudos for not buying 'wall art' from a décor store and for supporting real artists.
It brings to mind an abstraction of Hopper's Nighthawks from a higher angle.
It's a good size for that wall.
It doesn't speak to me (but it doesn't have to). In the right furniture setting it might be cool.
I'd put it there and work the room around it.

I see the Hopper reference...I think it's maybe a racetrack???? I tried the painting in our dining room, but it's too big to properly fit on the wall.

Since the painting wasn't an investment for me...I don't mind putting it in a different spot. My hubby is frowning on purchasing a new sofa for this room as we have a perfectly nice and modern camel colored sofa in the basement we can use. Hopefully you all can help me put together a the room without it

In the meantime, my son has mid-century furniture in his room with a love for science and ikea. So I think this art may just be the right fit.
