does unfertilized seed pod fall off w/Camellias?

From my limited experience hybridizing rhododendrons, it seems that after a month or two if the pod wasn't fertilized, it either falls off or shows no sign of swelling at all and in fact kind of dries and shrinks, so it's obvious there won't be any seeds. (in some cases it expends only a little, meaning not many seeds)

Will a typical camellia go all the way to developing fruit if it isn't pollinated? How soon will I know if my cross took or not?

Also, are most varieties self-incompatible or not?
