Some people would put a table here -- do you have a dining space elsewhere? Otherwise, it's just what you need -- a desk area, a mudroom grouping of benches and baskets for boots, just a big hutch to store extra dishware and show off some of it?

A hutch or a custom built in with shelves on top for books and pottery, etc and cabinets underneath for storage.
