That's one of the drugs that actually helps the liver repair itself. Really good results with it.

I do have a question on this drug. We seem to be having a few side effects with this drug. After Sweetie's on it for maybe 3 or 4 days, it seems she's a bit listless, off her feed, and acting as though she's not feeling well. What we do is skip a day, and then start again. Is like we're hitting a reset button, and things go forward. So, we try and add an extra day before we skip. Also, the only way we get this down her is in a piece of weiner. Anyone have any thoughts here?

Also, does anyone have any ideas on a vitamin we could give this old girl? With her appetite off, I want her to get the nutrients she needs.

It could be that a dose adjustment is needed. Have you spoken with your Vet about it?

My husband did. The vet told him that Sweetie's numbers usually meant that 2\3 of her liver wasn't working properly, and since she was improving, he wanted to keep her on that dosage.

Hmmm, well it's good that you checked. I hope that the medication works for her and she's better soon. (We have a cat named Sweetie)

they had me giving an anti nausea med with it.

we took our dog off because she was having diarrhea and vomiting and loss 10 pounds, re tested and her liver numbers were now normal, so no more denamarin for now. retest in a few months. her liver got bad maybe because she was on metacam for hip/knee inflamation, now off metacam and denamarin. digestion is better on special diet

How long was your dog on Denamarin before you got these good results, jn91871sf?

Our old dog had liver problems, and was on Denamarin several times. If I remember correctly, the main number (ALT?) should be 118, hers was 600!! Denamarin knocked it out in one course, I think 30 days or so. We noticed no adverse reaction to it, but Lady was very tolerant of drugs and responded well.

After the Denamarin got the numbers under control, we used very low-dose Prednisone for several years, I think a couple of times the numbers crept back up, but we hit it again and took care of it. Long term steroid use has its own set of problems, but Lady survived about 5-6 years with liver issues, and the vet said that would not be what killed her (it wasn't).

jenniferzahrad, our dog was on denamarin for about 2- months . we used Greenies Pill Pockets, our dog likes the chicken ones, Amazon has it. we use to skip doses of denamarin , its ok . what kind of dog do you have? We have a mastiff.

My hubby just said that he thought her number was over 500, but they were dropping after 2 weeks on. She appears to be feeling much better as she's very active, initiating play, and wants treats....Lots of them, but mommy's mean....food first, the dessert, right? jn9187, she's a terrier mix, we rescued her many years ago, not sure what she is really, but the main breed, we think, is "cuteness".
